There were a lot of Jeeps at New Smyrna Beach yesterday. It was not very sunny; but the temperature was in the mid-80s, the humidity was low, and there was a mild breeze – overall, a very nice day.

It is true that New Smyrna Beach is not a very challenging off-road adventure, but it is surprising how many vehicles get stuck in the sand. People use too much accelerator and dig themselves in, right up to the axle. In fact, about a month ago there was a group of low riders on the beach. That didn’t turn out so well.
Crescent Beach, which is 4WD only, is about 50 miles north of here. That is still not a challenging drive, but the sand is softer and you do have to be a little more aware. Of course, the tiki bars at New Smyrna Beach are much better.

You’d think they'd be happy to go to the beach, but you wouldn't know from looking at some of those Joops.
