Turns out he beat a record that was held by Ronald Reagan’s son in what is possibly the most 80's thing to ever ha ve happened.

There was also a bunch of powerboat series races between him, Don Johnson and Kurt Russell. What a time it must have been to be a mullet flying in the wind!

I heard that at one point the boat broke down. Chuck dipped his chin in the water and flexed his jaw muscles repeatedly, wi th his beard propelling the boat faster than the motor had been. Rather than repairing the motor they just let the beard propel them to victory.

Correction ... Chuck Norris once established the initial foot-waterski-behind-a-powerboat record - both speed (178 knots) and distance (348 nautical miles).

Many lesser humans have tried to best it ... their names are enshrined on a stone marker Norris carved out of Upper Peninsula granite using his fingernails.

He later threw it into the middle of La ke Michigan from the top of the Sears Tower.

It landed perfectly.

That picture is actually from his failed attempt the year before. Sadly on his successful run he didn’t have Sweetness with him.

Rumor has it that they never actually started the engine . Chuck Norris free-dove to the bottom of the lake and simply roundhouse kicked the lakebed , rotating the earth beneath the boat.

Yeah,  I just went looking for the most awesome photo for the topshot. I think the first attempt may have gathered more press than when he actually managed it.
