So this should be easy right? I have auto pay set up for my internet service. I set it up on the guess... INTERNET! But my credit card number got stolen and now I need to redo my auto payments for various accounts. Amazon, 30 seconds, netflix 15 seconds. But Rectum? I need to log in as the “primary acc ount user” what the fuck is that? I last logged into Rectum maybe 3 years ago... How am I supposed to remember my username and password? So I do the forget my shit thing and that worked for my account but it wouldn’t let me update my billing info... I guess I’m going to have to call someone and “talk” to someone. Hopefully it will be escalated to a “Manager” before this is all over.

Hahahaha I’ve had that same issue with Comcast. I can log in, thankfully (because I stored the info in my phone) but I can’t change  services online because I’m not the primary account holder. I’m the only person who has EVER been associated with this account.

Try unsubscribing from mailing lists. It should be instant since it’s all automated but one in particular says it’ll take two weeks. Buuullll shiiiitttt. I unsubscribe, get my inbox full of crap I don’t want, and nothing ever changes. So now I have to go through extra steps to block anything from this domain, yet somehow it still sneaks in.

Probably not the safest thing to do, but I generally let C hrome handle my passwords. I also have an app on my phone where I store a few hundred other passwords. There is no winning this battle...

Don't forget that before you even get the privilege of waiting on the hold line for an operator, you need to first run the gauntlet of the computer automated assistant that doesn't accept touchtone inputs, only voice. And you better have the right phrases to answer, otherwise that bitch will just hang up on you for being unable to understand you. Then when you finally get through to an operator, the connection to India is pretty poor with a delay. So communication is arguably worse with the real person. And then you accidentally lose service because a breeze rolled through and interrupted the call, bringing you back to square one. That sounds like my description of eternal hell lol.

Use a password manager. If I had to choose between my Jeep and going back to life without one, I’d gladly give up the Jeep.

Not only does mine keep track of all of those usernames and passwords (and allow me to stop using the same passwords  everywhere which has saved my bacon) but I also keep tons of other useful info: family’s SSNs, rewards programs, security questions and answers so I can use bogus answers, software licenses, etc.

(A nd frankly most security questions I’d have a hard time remembering anyway. Seriously, who did I think my favorite high school teacher was when I registered for that service?)

Spectrum is the fucking worst. I only use them because they have the fastest internet in town. But I had issues with hacked emails etc and their customer service was basically useless.

I know I should use a password manager, but what if I forget the password to my password manager?

Sounds like we have the same internet/cable company Comcrap. Isn’t charter and spectrum and comcrap one in the same? We had independent internet company in california it was so much better.

I’ve been told that all unsubscribing does is tell the bot that the email address is good. I’ve started getting hammered by spam and all unsubscribing does is make it worse.

Most of the time it works, but for when it doesn’t...

You’d think that there would be laws against this hideous behavior , but since corporations are people I guess we can’t infringe on their rights to free speech...

I have no idea about charter/spectrum - it’s been just Comcast/xfinity here since I moved in  and before that I had some small satellite internet company or something weird. I have no other options in my neighborhood (probably because Comcast buys everything). I hate them so much.

Yeah, only unsubscribe from reputable organizations (and even then, probably don’t just click their link).

I’m at the point where I’m just letting the spam filter do it’s thing and deleting it every so often. I used to get little to no spam, but somebody got one of my email addresses recently and now I’m getting hammered.

Would you mind sharing what password manager you use? Ive pondered using one for a long time, and Ive spent far more time than  on forgetting passwords and jumping through hoops to update passwords

LMAO, this just happened to me, too. Weekend before last, Discover calls to tell me someone is trying to buy a motorcycle online. Welp...time for a new card.

Now I sit back and wait for “payment failed” emails Hulu, Netflix, Charter (I refuse to use the new name because Charter sucks and will continue to suck until proven otherwise) from everyone I forgot to update.

And yes, Charter LOVES to make you login for stuff, but you don’t ever really need them for anything, so who can remember the random “Ash7891234" username the technician set you up with in 2004?

1Password. I also believe Lastpass is quite popular.

Fo r the longest time we were suffering with slow internet. There’s the main house and TWO attached units all using the same router. Between smartphones, laptops, smart TVs,and Rokus there’s something like 20 devices online. I gt sick of it and decided to replace the 7yo router that came from Comcast. I did my research and bought one that I was SURE could handle the load.

You can see where this is going. Our internet is just as shitty as before. Random slowdowns throughout the day, and from 9pm-3am it’s so bad nobody can stream HD video. Can’t even str eam video at all unless you’ve got a good signal to the router .

Comcast’s site says the overnight outage is routine maintenance. If so, that’s the stupidest thing ever. Nighttime is WHEN PEOPLE ARE HOME. Internet demand is up at night. That’s exactly when you shouldn’t be throttling.

As for our other issues, Comcast just tells us to reboot the router. Can’t even get them to come look at the connection into the house without scheduling weeks in advance.

Rectum? Damn near killed ‘em. I cannot recommend cord-cutting enough. Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, we’re golden and the kids are good with it too.
