Does anyone have experience with CPO warranties/extended warranties? Are they any good or are they just a scam by the Munich overlords? What do they cover, how much do they cost and more importantly are they worth it?

Say the info tainment stops working would the warranty cover that repair?

PS: Would you get an extended warranty for a CPO Lexus?

Zuprabomination for your time.

My 335ix was a CPO, they are just like any other used car. I think mine was ~$ 3500 for an additional 3 years with fairly extensive coverage . Y ou need to verify the limits of said warranty. The warranty will explicitly state what is covered and you should assume anything not stated is excluded. Sometimes dealers will help you out on out of coverage items but that is not guaranteed . Only when you can see their agreement in black and white with pricing can you verify if the additional cost is worth it to you.

My second BMW was from CarMax (as is my third) and I bought it for the CNA underwritten MaxCare. Unbeknownst to me, it also had a BMW CPO warranty until 75k.

So my first big repair, repairing the fuel injection , was done using the BMW warranty, which did not include a deductible. That was nice.

I like both the BMW warranty and the CNA one from CarMax.

I’ve had a CPO Mercedes for a year now, with 2 more years left on the warranty.

I’d tell you how good the warranty is, but, umm, I haven’t had any reason to use it yet.

Buddy of mine bought a 428GC on CPO a couple of years ago, and he’s been happy with it, though I don’t have any specifics.

A friend of mine bought a CPO 335i last year and bought the extended warranty. Within 2 weeks, the engine spun a bearing. The warranty would only authorize a used engine (car had 30k miles) and the next best available engine had 50k on it. Ultimately, it was settled by BMW itself which put a factory new motor in and covered it outside of the warranty.

YMMV. It took a couple weeks and the warranty did n othing. BMW itself had to step in to do it.

So is this something you can haggle with the dealer with then? What to include as well as price? Or is it set in stone?

That is unfortunate. I imagine it was a nightmare to get though all that. Hi how did your friend end up getting BMW involved?

I mean you can try but I'd be fairly certain that wherever you are looking they have some standard coverage for whatever they sell. Wouldn't know that much about it. I got it because I could, it was affordable and the coverage was decent.

It was actually the dealer who got involved. He let everyone know (dealership & warranty co.) that he wasn’t going to accept an engine with more miles than the one that blew up. The general manager at the dealership called BMW corporate to let them know that the customer was being wronged and they stepped up. It took a few weeks though.

My 335xi was under an extended factory CPO warranty . In Canada it was an additional 3 years and everything was covered with the exception of glass, wear items (brakes, clutch, ect) and headlights.

I think at the time (2015) it was $1800-2500 (I forget the exact value) however I know they only offer a 2 year now, as in the 3rd year of my warranty, we had $15,000 worth of work completed. Again, as others have said, YMMV.

Typically I’d say you are better off going with a manufacturer backed extended warranty than a 3rd party one. Coverages tends to be better and you do have the manufacturer involved if things get fussy. Of course they tend to be more expensive but you can shop around for prices even on extended warranties. I had one on my old truck that I bought from a ford dealer online that was considerably cheaper than what the local ford house wanted to take.
