I hope they get gold just to enrage the perpetually offended so-called right who seem to be rooting against them. Then after they win they can take a knee and refuse to visit 45. Safe spaces will be in order for the self-titled alpha patriot set .

It’s not soccer (

but
football.

Where are you seeing anyone rooting against them?
I can’t stand Trump, but Rapinoe (and the reporter who brought up the old interview) started this . The correct answer was “I’m not answering that question.” No reason to turn this into a political thing now where loyalists will run to their corners. Please j ust let us come together and support our national team on the world stage and be united for once . If you want to be outspoken on the issues, save it for the interviews a few days after you win.
If they do win, it will surely turn political because of what’s transpired so far , and what sucks is that it will potentially split the team as well (unless the whole team decides to decline the invitation). How many endorsement dollars are Alex Morgan and others willing to give up to take a political stand like that?
Honestly, the best thing to do would be for them all to accept the invitation, but be vocal as hell about their issues with Trump in the lead-up to the visit so he ends up rescinding the invite.

There’s no shortage of bitter comments about the team and personal commentary its star. Think of the out of touch righties you know who blather on fb all day. Would they be so triggered had she not castigated their dear leader and then had the gall to side with a football player who also wasn’t wrong?
This is the darkest dumbest timeline. Everything is political.
I agree about accepting the invite, then backing out at the last second, like 45 has done with his creditors.

Nah, the correct answer was the one she felt like giving.
She doesn’t owe anyone anything.
Win or lose, I hope these women continue to ignore everyone who thinks they can tell them how they can act or what they should say. That’s the most American thing they could do.

When did the US women’s soccer scene become political?
How did it become more complicated than US women win = USA #1?
Just tell them that socialist (ah fuck, just call them communist) Europeans will win if the USA doesn’t establish dominance, that should get them on side. Who else is communist? CHINA. Who does Trump want to hate? CHINA.
IF YOU HATE THE US WOMEN’S TEAM YOU SUPPORT COMMUNIST EUROPEANS AND THEREFORE CHINA, THE SAME CHINA WHO TOOK ER JERBS!
Also, please go read a book or something to undo the damage that reading this comment just caused.

It’s a good measure of the people in our society that don’t have anything better to do with their time and/or are mentally unhinged.
They’re not places for discussion; they’re places for bored/ angry/insane people to go and shout into the void.

I wouldn’t go there to discuss, rather, to kind of take the temperature of current emotions.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of them, they are avid voters, and their votes are often counted disproportionately.

I could also go down to the homeless shelter if I wanted to hear crazy people shout...
About a quarter of voting-age Americans cast a vote for Trump in 2016. I’m hopeful that far fewer are willing to make a mark for him next year.

Unfortunately, a higher percentage of active voters cast that same vote, and in a system where some votes are worth more than others, we now have those people shouting from the White House.

I’m hoping the political part of this can largely take a back seat until after the final. Seems like the 4th celebration is taking most of the oxygen today, but who knows what the talking heads will want to focus on Friday & Saturday.
———————————
Team USA soccer star Megan Rapinoe is getting major support in the locker room after going after President Trump ... with her coach, Jill Ellis, saying the entire team has Megan’s back.
Of course, Trump tweeted about Rapinoe on Wednesday ... lashing back at Megan after the co-captain said there’s no way she would go to the “f*cking White House” if USA wins the World Cup.
“I’m not going to the fucking White House.” - @mPinoe pic.twitter.com/sz1ADG2WdT
— Eight by Eight (@8by8mag) June 25, 2019 @8by8mag
Trump told Rapinoe he’d extend an invite anyway — and advised her to focus on winning before trashing him in public.
Rapinoe and Ellis addressed the media on Thursday ... where Rapinoe dug in on her anti-Trump stand — saying, “I stand by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House, with the exception of the expletive”
“My mom will be very upset about that.”
When asked if Rapinoe’s comments have been a distraction to the team, Ellis shot that down — and said, “We all support Megan, she knows that.”
Ellis added, “We know we have each other’s backs in there. I think for our players, there is only one purpose, one mission that we’re here. Comments, media, whatever, it’s always been something that I think we can block out pretty easily.”
Rapinoe’s teammate, Ali Krieger, backed up Megan on social media — saying she’ll “sit this one out as well. I don’t support this administration nor their fight against LGBTQ+ citizens, immigrants & our most vulnerable.”

We certainly are living in interesting times. I think with the stuff we’re seeing on the southern border, plus the hate our VP has for gay people, it’s a bit beyond politics.
And I doubt hardcore supporters of the president would have been rooting for a purple haired lesbian anyways.
They’re going to get criticized no matter what they do, so they might as well do what they want. They got criticized for scoring too many goals for Christ’s sake. Too much winning, I guess.

If anyone can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, it’s the Ds. Where one side is good at falling in line, the other likes bickering and in-fighting, while fielding too many candidates (most of them irrelevant).
Also, populist rhetoric, gerrymandering, and “anxiety”, which draw some like moths to a flame, can make for tough opponents.

I know... It’s very hard to hit “pause” these days...
And maybe I’m wrong to want a few moments of blissful ignorance where we can all come together and support some of the best athletes in the world attempt to win a simple game on behalf of our nation. And now Trump is even making attending an Independence Day parade in our nation’s capitol a political act (think any Ds would even consider attending now, unless they’re carrying protest signs?). Intentional or not, he’s masterful at finding ways to cause division between us and our fellow citizens.
I do care deeply about how migrants are being treated, and that all people should have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in their lives, without fear of persecution. I just can’t spend every moment of every day focusing on all the bad that’s in our country and in the world. There’s too much, and it would just send me into a deep depression...

There were 17 Rs last time around. I’m sure they’ll be dropping like flies soon. At least the Ds know their weakness and are talking a good game about rallying around the future nominee at this point.
The gerrymandering decision really was a tragedy for fairness in elections ...

There’s only one candidate for the GOP, and he’s in office right now, planning a deliriously expensive politicized 4th of July celebration fit for a banana republic ruled by a tinpot dictator while sitting on the shitter and tweeting about soccer players.
I suspect there’s perfect overlap between those who support gerrymandering and those who support the antiquated electoral college nonsense.

Gerrymandering works both ways. The party in power can use it to keep power.
There’s no point in even discussing the end of the Electoral College - there’s zero chance enough small states will support giving up the political power it gives them.

Definitely used by both sides in a historical perspective, but I’d wager today one uses it 95% more than the other, and that happens to be the side who likes heckhole taker states and Jim Crow laws.
It’s funny that the electoral college, something which might have once helped the nation advance, today might have the exact opposite impact.
