I’d say these filters were due for replacement

New vs Old filters. The top picture is the air intake filter for the HVAC system. The bottom picture is for the air intake for the engine.

I don’t see any accumulation of plant detritus or animal corpses. What was the problem?

Maybe the old cabin air filter was charcoal?

I just use K&N and shake them out periodically. Depending on who you listen to, I’m either gaining 17 horsepower or I’m letting fully grown birds enter my engine.

Either way, my oil tests are clean and I like not having to buy (or stock up on) filters.

Well the old filters just don’t look pretty enough!

My vote goes to ‘letting birds enter the engine’.

But those birds had it coming.

Fucking birds...
