It was pretty quick, although it had the worst gas pedal feel of possibly anything I’ve ever driven.
Also, it ran out of gas on an on- ramp. That was exciting.
This was the only car that I drove, because my wife was a little afraid to see what it could do and I had to know. Then it ran out of gas on me ¯\_()_/¯
The rate at which I was accelerating on said on-ramp possibly had something to do with it.

I have driven this gen Sonata and the Optima with the turbo before. the unrefinement was pretty noticable. They’ve come a long way since then.

My dad had a 1st year Optima with that motor. It went it for drivetrain failures 4 times in 2 years. Consider yourself lucky.
It also handled like complete garb age. On a long highway sweeper, the 1st gen electric steering would grab-letgo-grab-letgo in the most 1980s arcade way ever. T he motor, which made good power, made for sneaky speed. Not so much sneaky to other people, sneaky to you when you were about to enter a corner. So much more motor than the chassis could handle. I swear, it started to understeer before you even started turning.
The Fit is probably the right choice. Slow, but ate least it’s not eager to hit a guardrail or take a trip to the dealer.

Yeah I was suspicious of engine problems without even looking into. Our Theta egine was pretty good over all, but at nearly 10 years old was getting oil and coo lant consumption problems, and slapping on a turbo isn’t likely to help with that. Also my wife as I mentioned was a little afraid of the power anyway.

I feel like these showed Hyundai was getting it together and going in the right direction but they hadn’t quite figured it out yet. A friend had a non turbo base model of this generation and from normal driving it was very ragged.
The new ones might be a little more boring/mainstream but they’re solid. Them, Kia, Mazda and Honda are all really good for mainstream brands right now where each has its things it’s the best at.
Hyundai/Kia has the best ride comfort, tech and warranty. Mazda has the more premium and sporty feel and styling. Honda has more efficient motors and packaging plus best resale value. All of them are worth considering against more expensive cars from premium brands that are supposedly better.

I honestly don't remember. '11 or '12 I think. Leaning towards 12.
