Chrome bumper trim on a modern Challenger - I think this might be ok?

I crossed paths with this Dodge Challenger the other day. It had assorted retro style details including some chrome trim on the bumper and wheels that are modern size but shaped like old muscle car steelies. With the retro styling, it kinda works?

oddly enough, I could not easily find that on ebay. Figured it would be top of the list of cheapo add on chrome bits. I don’t totally hate it

My mom’s boy friend installed a complete aftermarket “pep boys” chrome trim package on her Mazda CX-5. Tacky as hell, and was corroding after one winter. Think door handles, window sills, door edges and light surrounds.

Wheel pants and “I’M A 40s CHEVY” fender trim, yes. Smoothies also yes. Buick ports, eh, and headlights “maybe not that exactly”.

After all, if you’re playing at being a vehicle around the break over for sealed beams, you could at least pretend to have an old school streamlined housing instead of a new school one.

That’s actually not horrible which this kind of thing usually is. I think the grille is really what completes the look

Agree with you on all- and I would add that the headlights are truly awful when you look at how they’re mounted.

I also hate external sun visors and wind blockers in any a pplication .

The wheels are nice. The tires  though are bad.

The front/windshield visor is okay. Fits with a ‘40s look well enough. The side deflectors, though... eesh.

I don’t know that the tires are terrible, but they’d count as overdoing it.

I’m always amazed at the lengths people will go to for decorating their car for a car show, using items that are not at all car related (like stuffed animals)

The worst at this show, also in this Mopar club, was a Hillary Clinton masked mannequin laying by a Litttle Red Expresses that was meant to look like a mechanic working on the car.

Oh no the actual worse was another woman  mannequin in a super slutty version of a A&W uniform in a both meant to look like a driven in dinner with a 50s buick.

The front visor is period correct, yes, I just don’t like them on actual 40s cars either.

The side visors are just a way to advertise that you smoke cigarettes in the car.

And based on the look of the tire, and that they don’t appear to be a bit flat on the bottom, I believe that they’re bias plies.  That’s silly.

Boomer here. Chrome works well on old cars, almost never on new cars. I could dig the wheels though. Looking more closely, the driver surprisingly doesn’t look that old although it's hard to tell exactly.

There’s a company called RetroUSA that makes those chrome trim kits - bumpers, grille, rocker moldings. They only fit up to MY 2012, and sales must never have been that great, since they haven’t bothered to update the kits to fit newer models.

I actually toyed with getting at least the front bumper trim for mine, only because it was white and that blunt wall of white plastic facing into the wind was a huge magnet for dead insects. I had to scrub it down after every trip, or the whole front end would practically turn black. In my experience, chrome is a lot easier to keep clean and also more resistant to damage from bug guts.

I guess, fortunately for me, they don’t make anything for a 2016, so I avoided that whole scene.
