Bearing fail and eat into the shaft? Nicely repaired! Hopefully it doesn’t mind having effectively been annealed, though.

Yup. Its a mild steel shaft, so the annealing shouldnt mater. In this case (a drum mower spindle) the shaft is actually clamped stationary, and the bearings carry the drum, which is driven by a belt and rotates around the shaft.

Normally, I’d agree, except that you obviously took the time to sand it down. Amateur mistake. If it took longer that 5 minutes to fix, you put way too much effort into it.
