Today was gunmetal blue/ Euro front plate/box day as I walked downtown Indy. These could be twins.

Nice bumpers on the VW, looks pretty clean but I can see the seam rust is killing it..

Nice Vanagon. Those things are getting hard to find, especially in the Midwest. I've seen a total of two since I moved to STL seven years ago. The last one I saw was back in February when my mom was in town to visit; it was almost identical to the Carat she drove for 12 years, and we were like a couple of kids, each snapping a bunch of pictures of it.

They are all in Vermont, Oregon, Southern California, and Pulaski VA.

My folks still live in SoCal, and the last time I visited them I did see plenty. I wouldn’t be surprised if both of mom’s are still out and about. Her first one, a 1980, did suffer from blown rings but was otherwise OK, and the guy who bought her 1990 was another Vanagon nut and was stunned at the condition it was in. My ‘83.5 unfortunately died in a frontal offset collision, and was picked apart by the mechanics at the dealership where I worked at the time.
If I ever become stupid rich and start my own Vanagon restoration firm it will be in SoCal...
