A LHD Dutch registered van casually driving around south east Queensland.
This was the last thing I expected to see today. I have never seen a vehicle with foreign plates here.
They looked very much like tourists... note the surfboards on the roof.
The logistics of this would have been insane. Surely it would have been easier to buy a van locally to use for a few months and then sell before leaving?

Looking at the awning on the left hand side, and the split between the body and the roof, it's almost certainly a camper so may be touring around Asia and Australasia.

They go everywhere. If it can be logistically done, they’ll do it, its in their blood.

Have you seen the cost (and subsequent depreciation) of a camping equipped VW T5 van in Australia recently?
It's why my T4 is now 18 years old...

I’ve seen several German-plated Sprinter campervans on holiday in the Canadian Rockies. Pretty much the only “ foreign” (i.e. not Canadian or American) plated vehicles I’ve ever seen. I can’t imagine the logistics of shipping a van from Germany to western Canada, let alone from the Netherlands to the east coast of Australia.

I can imagine, but surely you could pick up a used Hiace or something...?

The Dutch get EVERYWHERE, there is pretty much nowhere in the world where vehicles can easily get to that you won't see a Dutch registered vehicle!

You could...but these people are Dutch.

Exactly. It’s a camper van and I think we are safe to assume they will visit other countries on that side of the world with that van as well. If you want to travel multiple countries in a camper van, I can understand wanting to do so in your own van. If you’ve got the funds, why not?

It's a perfect size to drive into a container, say to Asia, transit through, maybe a roll-on roll-off to Australia, then New Zealand, then fly home and ship the vehicle back or sell it where it is and fly back on the money you've recouped.
