My best friend’s roommate/landlord threw her out in favor of a guy, because she’s incapable of thinking about other people’s needs and feelings. So now I have a new roommate, except... she’s in the hospital with cellulitis. Yes, the roommate threw a bedridden woman to the curb in exchange for some dick. Needless to say, we're not happy about this whole arrangement. My friend has to give up her cat now and find a new job where I live, and she's literally at risk of losing her leg to this infection as well. This is insane.

T hat sounds illegal.
This is what we'll show whenever you publish anything on Kinja:

Check your local laws, what they did may be extremely illegal and something that they c ould regret doing.

That’s assuming the living arrangement was legal to begin with. People do l ots of questionable sublet arrangements.

Cellulitis is treatable with antibiotics. Did she wait too long to seek treatment? Regardless, I wish her the best.

Yeah, as everyone else says, that’s very likely to be illegal. Even if the living arrangement wasn’t legal to begin with, it still is often illegal to kick someone out. If the roommate was the landlord (which seems to be situation here), that’s even more sketchy.

This is also true, but most places seem to have laws protecting “tenants” even if there is no official agreement or document

In Arizona you’re considered a tenant after someone lets you live with them for a certain amount of time, whether or not you have a written agreement or rent is charged. My dad found this out the hard way when he tried to give his ex gf the boot.

I'm allergic, sadly. I love that cat, but I can't spend more than a couple days with her.

She actually went to the hospital for it, they gave her meds, and then refused to check on her again when it got worse. So now she's in a better hospital near me, and they're really mad at the original hospital for letting it get so bad.

Time to sue. She should check into legal aid and if it's a discrimination issue, the ACLU could set in.
