“ How dare you pay attention to the thing that draws attention ?”

I’d assume they’re getting pulled over every 5 miles.

Why must people insist on close the trunk by using the painted lip instead of the interior grab handle?

Is that the elusive Saab 9-2? The badging looks correct.

I see that Mass attitude crosses the border.

i’m curious if you live in a state like NY that requires front + rear plates... if one of them was missing and you did something like that cardboard, would you be able to get away with it until you got a replacement as long as the # and state matches the front/back one?

That is such a Vermont car/Vermont thing to do.

Honestly though, if the numbers match the DMV and you have the stickers on the cardboard, does it matter?

This guy obviously doesn’t but if I made a cardboard plate that matched my actual plate, would that be illegal?

A. I don’t think my car has an interior grab handle? B. Even on cars that do have them, it feels weird, since it necessarily would close the lid on your hands unless you quickly move you hand (which is moving forward as the trunk closes) backwards and out of the way. C. Since you can’t close it the whole way from the interior, you need to slam it a bit so it will have momentum to close, which feels bad, and makes “B” worse.

I be white people driving a Saab are seen as pretty low risk (especially when they helpfully provide a plate number) . Cops don’t want to waste time pulling someone over to write a ticket for something that’s probably going to be dropped anyway. Maybe if they are stopped behind them at a light, they would quickly run the plate (but maybe LPRs have made them too lazy to even do that). Not fair at all of course, but that would be my guess.

Pretty sure that would be illegal. And in an age of ubiquitous license plate readers, it probably should be.

I spent way too long trying to find understand why they had a Dodge/ Ram emblem sitting on their parcel shelf.

All good points — I don’t know Saabs well enough, but most European-derived cars have been using the interior handles for a while. They can be awkward, especially depending on the resistance provided by the springs. Some just shut gently, others you have to slam down.

My parent s’ Volvo wagon has them, but I don’t believe my S60 does (though I could be blind/have a bad memory).

VT is a two plate state, which makes this even worse. He's lost em both.

If they have current registration and it’s just that their plate fell off or was stolen, then I’d imagine it would be, especially if they put in for a replacement.

I know some people feel that way, but there’s a lot of good it can do. I certainly want stolen cars flagged, I want toll evaders flagged, I want people without insurance flagged, I want people with failed emissions flagged (and I want on the fly emissions stations to become widespread, and to be able to identify cars that fail). There are plenty of other possible good uses as well. I don’t approve of keeping historical data for more than a week or so. And I feel even weirder about commercial companies building those databases (not that Google, Sprint, and Samsung (and probably others) aren’t tracking my every movement and sharing that data with third-parties).

I was wondering about that. The default VT format is ABC 123. I was thinking maybe it's a really old plate.

“On My Mind” plates still work for some of the cars they’re registered to. The On My Mind plate tied to my mom’s MPV still says “2003 Mazda MPV Wagon.” She traded it in in 2008. If this plate isn’t working, it’s probably not real.
