I am starting to see them more and more on the roads now. Guess there is a specific market for those who want a 5 seater Pilot and nothing from the competition. Appears that sales are picking up, but the Pilot still does 13K units a month.

Lukewarm take - Downhill assist is stupid and I think people are leaving it off because they know their customers don’t care.

So my main beef with the way these twin disc 4wd systems work - they work REALLY hard (too hot warnings are going to be common off-road ) and they are forced to uncouple based on electronic parameters like steering angle because they are also acting as a rear diff which means you lose a lot of 4wd if you happen to need to turn and drive...which is often. And because   torque vectoring systems like the Honda system overdrive each wheel it means you are forced to slip the clutches pretty much anytime you send torque back to avoid having the rear axle outpace the front.

These Passports are very good off-road for what they are...but I do wonder what their longevity will be if used roughly.

These types of single speed off-roaders NEED an engine at least this size to really work. I mean a renegade is only 16% lighter than a passport, but it tries to do the same off-road work with 33% less torque and similar crawl ratios.  VW has proven single speed systems can work when coupled to torque with the Amarock V6.  A passport with a little hybrid push in the rear axle would work really well.
