Yesterday, I found a guy that used old slide cabinets from Boulder Community Hospital, and he converted them into end tables. Color is really going to pop in our new mostly gray house and I bought a pair.
Then today, I found an old, super heavy all meta cabinet, used by a railroad (ad said Santa Fe, sticker says Union Pacific). We degreased it and washed decades worth of grime. Once it’s fully dry, I’ll hit it with a coat of flat clear, and I’ll keep all the old imperfections and stencil marks. We’ll use it as a booze bar.
Two months or so before the house is done.

Cool finds. Reminds me I want to pick up an old tanker desk one of these days

Thanks! It’ll be perfect for our purpose. It’s like 300lbs though. Just solid.

What’s a tanker desk?

Those old, massive, heavy-as-shit steel desks that used to be ubiquitous at schools and offices. They stopped making them a few decades ago because they couldn’t be mass-produced. You can find custom and/or refurbed ones for like $2000+ (nope) or Craigslist steals for a hundred or so.

Oh those are cool! They sure don’t make them as they used to. I sold high end furniture and even that was fairly shoddy built.

Yeah, seems like your best bet is to find cool old peices, or small one-man operations putting out custom work if you can afford it.
For everything else.... IKEA!

I have a nice Steelcase in my basement. These should be like pianos...what you pay for them is the fact that you’re moving them, because holy hell so they suck to move.
