I magine facing down a 200+ pound heavyweight pro and as soon as punches start flying your way... Instead of tightening your gaurd you drop your hands, lean back, and make your opponent look like they’re fighting in slow motion.
I was trying to think of what sports event I would be most interested in if I could see anything in history, and one of Ali's bigger fights might get the nod.

I’ve never been a boxing fan, but when I was a kid I would make an exception for an Ali fight.
Those clips are mesmerizing.
And if you try to name the most significant athlete of the 20th century (heck of all time), he’s going to be in the top 5 - I’d put him 2nd.

I like Ali, but my favorite is still Ernie Shavers - the boxer with a punch so hard, even if you block it, you’re still going to hurt. Ali got quoted as saying “I blocked Shavers’ punch. I still heard bells and whistles in my head” and one interview with Foreman about the hardest hitters in boxing, Foreman listed three boxers who were not Ernie Shavers. The guy giving the interview asked about one other boxer and Foreman says “Nah, he’s not so bad”. Then he asks about shavers and Foreman immediately jumps up and has a look of actual fear on his face and goes “I haven’t had to face him! Thank GOD!”
This video is a good overview of Sh avers

I hear ya. I t’s hard not to appreciate a master, regardless of the profession.
Just curious, who’s your top pick? MJ?

Jackie Robinson
It was most significant, not best - Ali had a big influence on society as well as being a transcendent athlete

I've got some YouTubing to do! That was a good video, it was equally interesting to hear about someone who made Gordon Ramsey cry lol

Many, many years ago, I was flying out of PGH with my brother and my dad pointed out a man standing with a young girl. He said, “That’s Muhammad Ali. Cassius Clay. You should go get his autograph.” So we ran and bought a couple of postcards and a pen and asked him for his autograph. He was very gracious and signed our cards. Afterward, he put the pen in his pocket and I said, “Hey, that’s our pen.” He put up his dukes and said, “Wanna fight me for it?” He had a big grin on his face and handed back the pen. Those postcards are long, long gone. I wish I still had them.

I liked his bit in the Sh avers’ video about Ali’s quote about taking a punch to the face from him - Ali said “My kinfolk back in Africa felt that!” and so Shavers adds that quote himself to any photo from the fight you ask him to sign. Cause what a fucking boss!
If you’re in the Fact Fiend rabbit hole, my favorites are as follows:
