I feel you. I hated the thinkpads at my old job. Had worse battery life than my eight year-old MacBook.

Nope... the MacBook is from work. That piece of shit keyboard ticks me off and I refuse to use it, so I brought my mechanical keyboard with me. And I hate that trackpad.

It has to do with the key switches. Mechanical keyboards have some sort of spring loaded physical buckling switch, while more common keyboards use a rubbery membrane. Mechanical keyboards can be better for touch typing, but also tend to be louder and more expensive. In any event, the keyboard used on the Macs is not especially good (though not horrible), and doesn’t have much key travel. Thinkpads, even the newer ones with chicklet keys are known for being good to type on (for laptops).

Hmm, I could use a “My other laptop doesn’t have a garbage screen ” for my work laptop... 1366x768 (12.5" ) vs 3200x1600 (13.3"). I would have been so much happier if they had spec’ ed it with the 1080p screen, or better yet, got me an X1 with the 2560x1440 screen. They are buying T480s now I think, I don’t appreciate the greater bulk, though I think they are least getting 1080p screens on those.

Interesting. My Macbook definitely has a much lighter feel to its keyboard than what I remember the Mac 128k I grew up playing Oregon Trail on felt like. They both feel like shit compared to a good type writer, though.

The latest ones are indeed horrible though. They feel like the keys on my BlackBerry. Fine for a thumb-board, but terrible for touch typing since they have no travel at all . Even my friend who’s been using Macs and swear by them for a long time hates it.

If you say so. I’ve used cheap laptops that clearly skimped on the keyboard, and I find it hard to believe Apple would ship something that bad, though I haven’t had my hands on the most recent models. Key travel is definitely an issue though on the ones I’ve used.

Only vehicle I own with points is my motorcycle. It’s still on the original set . Went to order replacements, but Honda wanted just as much as an electronic conversion would cost me. The advancer springs took a shi t on me, but I was able to replace them with a spring from an envelope converting machine. Been running great for three years. I was going to convert it, but now I want to just keep the OG ignition in it forever. My eight and six year-old know more about old school igni tions than most engineering students.

My ‘66 GMC has a crate 350 of unknown year in it with an electronic ignition. Had a bad HEI a few years ago which had me thinking it was a fuel pump/vapor lock issue. After replacing the whole fueling system I finally put a new HEI in it and she was purring like a kitten . Then the transmission ate shit...
