Brits still spell it “programme” for some pants-on-head reason.

I’ll just say the argument that another referendum would be undemocratic is absurd on its face. The fact that voters previously wanted something doesn’t mean that they can’t change their minds, especially given that it’s clear the fairy tale scenario where the UK got everything it wanted out of Brexit isn’t happening. Having a new vote, or even having elected representatives take action based on the actual scenario instead of some fantasy is not North Korea.

Canada purports to use the queen’s English but I don’t think we use programme or the like quite so much. It  reduces the egregious use of superfluous letters just enough to be a nice middle ground.

On the face of it, I’d agree, opinions can definitely change. The short turnaround in public opinion does somewhat ridicule the democratic process t hough, given the length of the campaigning and debate before the actual vote.

Or perhaps it’s just that now the No voters are shouting ever so loudly while the Brexiters and sitting quietly waiting for the process to happen , having gotten their way democratically.

People should have more thoroughly considered the ramifications of their decision and now they have to deal with the consequences. I feel that Britain should be able vote to rejoin the EU at some point, but for now the process should be seen through, unpleasant as it may be for many.

Admittedly, that’s a bit of schadenfreude in my eyes as a European outside observer.

Seems foolish to me. The Brexit they are going to get is not the Brexit they thought they were voting for. That of course was apparently at the time as well, but the fact people can’t be expected to all be policy wonks is part of why there is representative government in the first place. If the reason not to have another vote is because you think they would vote remain this time, then you are the one being undemocratic, since you are subverting what they people may want now.

If there were to be another vote I do think the remain side would prevail (and believe that would be best for the UK and EU) but that not why I don’t want there to be another before the brexit process is seen through.

W e do have representative government for a reason but in a referendum it is directly up to the voters to get themselves effectively informed on the decision they are making. One can definitely argue that people were misled and/or misinformed, deliberately or otherwise - certainly some xenophobic anti-immigration sentiments were leveraged for the leave vote - but the choice has been made and the people should deal with the consequences, good or bad.

None of this “I want a do- over because I didn’t get what I want”, that’s not gonna fly. If it did, nothing would ever get accomplished.
