Thanks to the group running a 30% off discount last minute, I have just signed up for a track day at Buttonwillow on this Friday. One whole week earlier than I originally planned for my first track day with the car! It is a grand total of $104 for five 20 minute sessions. I’m gonna make some good use of my Toyo RR tires and nice new alignment and corner balance getting done tomorrow. I also just ordered my g-loc brake pads from 5x racing but those probably won’t arrive until next week. I will run on street pads for this event I guess, but it wouldn’t be the first time for me. At least my brake fluid is fresh and I’ll get new street pads to murder at the very least.

Ideally with it being a Friday and the group having to hand out such a great deal to get attendance up, there should be a pretty wide open track! Should make for a good day, even though I have to wake up at like 4am to be there with my tires on by like 7am.

Don't die. I need to see if my Mercedes is faster than your Miata now.

Running slicks and street pads, seems to be a mismatch? Then again, not familiar with the track and I do know the Miata is a momentum car.

Oh its definitely a mismatch. Its why i ordered the racing pads for my next track day. This one just came up suddenly and I wasnt going to pass it up due to brake pads. Street pads will certainly work, I’ll just ruin them immediately. It helps how light Miatas are and this track definitely only has a couple of heavy braking zones, followed by like 90 seconds of not needing any braking. I will need them MUCH more at laguna seca next weekend.

And the shop that is doing my alignment had some really good racing pads, but not in the sport caliper size that I need. Otherwise I would have just bought them there and been happy.

Gotcha, fun tracks! I just cooked my brakes up at the last event; pad deposits on the rotor to the point of replacement. Not excited to fully replace, flush and bleed the brake system as I did that only 3000 miles ago.

Live and learn, buy track pads folks!

Oh yeah I have new rotors standing by for when the new pads arrive. So the only bad thing that can really happen is cooking the pads to the point of nonfunctionality for the drive home. But I will be bringing an extra set of old pads I have laying around just in case so that I can get home safely either way.

Smart. I assume Miata part prices are a fair bit easier to stomach than the M3 CSL floating rotors I cooked

$30 a piece (that price is with shipping) for the highest recommended rotor to use for the miata oem brake calipers.
