I got hit with a nasty give-me-all-the-drugs cold and didn’t end up checking out the bike on Friday. Now it’s listed as pending sale...
No bueno.
Ithere are two Ducati dealerships within 7 miles of me and neither of them have any red Monster 821's. In fact, if the pending sale above goes through, there’s only a single red 821 for sale in the state. It’s being sold at the same dealership that has the pending 821 I was hoping to snag, but it’s about 30 miles away, which is 2+ hours each way in traffic. Do I drive all the way o ut there and buy a bike at full price..? Kind of tough to stomach when the pending bike was $3k less for the same brand new model, just with a few scratches...
If given the choice I’d rather purchase something through the Ducati dealership that’s 5 minutes from me for c onvenience, and to build rapport with a dealership t hat sounds pretty great based on their Google reviews . You know... If Ducati had anything other than Multistridas, Panigales and Monster 1200's at either of their Seattle metro locations.
I think I could handle a 1200 (and by handle I mean keep it in city mode and pussy foot it for awhile) but alas... The price difference changes this whole endeavor from being just a bad idea, to a t errible idea.
Bike plan might be on hold. At least I’ll have my license and full riding gear! Also, I’ve never bought anything new outside of work, where I was dealing with fleet managers. What kind of negotiating power do I have here? I’m guessing slim to none given the supply, but...
Tl:Dr - it’s early summer in the PNW! Why aren’t there any 821's for sale

Are you 100% committed to not buying private party?

You should have those Oregon boys be on the look out for one near Portland.
I don’t know anything about bikes. But what I do know is this: things cost money and that is very inconvenient.

I’m trying to think of other bikes that make me feel things the way the Ducati does...
I bet I’d really like the sporty T riumphs, but I don’t think they’re very attractive.
I absolutely love the way Y amaha’s XSR900 looks, but... I don’t know. Something about it just doesn’t excite me the way a M onster does. That said I’m considering looking for one.
KTM Super Duke? Yeah.... That’s got the looks and everything else, but it’s super pricey and would kill me.
None of the Kawasaki’s/Honda’s/Suzuki’s make me feel anything. Ninjas are and have always been ugly. The 80's/90's graphics packages were AWESOME. But... Still ugly bikes! (I had a ninja, calm down)
I like BMW’s nineT scrambler, but I want something sporty first, and then a cheap dirt bike later on. Scrambler seems like too much of a compromise.
I like Ducati’ s scrambler, but... Same price as a Monster 821.
Hypermotard would be awesome, but it’s pricier than a monster, doesn’t look as good and seems to have a very short range.
Various d uel-sport K TM/Husqvarnas, but again I want a street-focused m achine first.
Adventure bikes, I cannot afford. Sadface
A Brutale would be awesome, but I feel that would be like taking every reason why I shouldn’t buy a Ducati (which there are many, I'm cognizant of my questionable decision making) , and turning it up to 11.
Aprilia, see above.
Old bikes.... I’m tired of things breaking. I want something Shi n y, one time.

Front wheel on the ground, back wheel sliding ‘ round the curves. I'll do my best!

Agreed. I want to introduce a hug-based system of commerce.
Paging “Oregon Boys”. Find me a new r ed Monster and I’ll give you 500 handhugs and a bro slap.

How is 30 miles 2+ hours?
![]() 06/16/2019 at 19:14 |

It requires driving through some of the worst traffic in the country, made worse by two different massive, multi-decade construction projects.
Don’t move to Seattle if you value your sanity, folks

XSR900 and Street Triple are both amazing.
But this is better:

Bikes are still very trendy and a lifestyle item here, I suspect there isn’t a lot of wiggle room in pricing.

That seems like a killer deal. Lack of warranty scare me though

You could maybe buy a warranty? It is a killer deal.

Ask your dealer to get it up here. Or you fly down there and ride it home.

Also, motorcorsa is pretty open to negotiating, maybe your local dealer is too. Doesn’t hurt to ask.
But I suggest riding one first, and am XSR, and maybe some other stuff too before actually dropping some cash.

It’s taken me almost two hours to get to LAX before and that’s only about 25 miles from me lol. I've gone at 4am and made it in 27 minutes and normally is about an hour. So it's not surprising to hear crap like that up there too.

Ok. I’ll stick to my midwestern 37 miles in 30 or so minutes.
Where I live, leaving before 6am will get you there in an hour. (To work) afterwork 1.5 hours will get you anywhere in metro area.
I’d rather be home before 5pm.

Look at an Aprilia. The Shiver is comparable to the Monster 821, and they’re practically giving away leftover ‘18s now.
Same goes for Tuonos, and those are a V4. Little bit more expensive to buy, a lot more expensive after you inevitably get caught by the police doing dumb shit.
The dealer network totally sucks balls though, from my first hand experience. Riding one is amazing, especially a V4 with an obnoxious exhaust . The process of buying a new one and owning it is awful though. Ducati dealers are generally much better at not sucking, but to compensate for that they simply overcharge you for everything.

It’s your peak riding season, that’s why there aren’t any bikes for sale.

I’ve been super lucky to have a schedule that allows me to go in the opposite direction of traffic, work from home, or just drive at night.
But those rare occasions when I screw up and have to do 405 and I5 during rush hour... I suddenly remember why everyone I know around here is constantly complaining about traffic. It's absolutely brutal

Furthest west I’ve driven is Moab, UT.
I’ve been to Vegas, but flew in & out. Didn’t even drive while there.

Yeah, there’s no traffic in the Midwest...

I’ll keep an eye open, but AMGtech is far more likely to spot anything Duc-related!

Keep an eye on Seattle Used Bikes. They always have a rotating inventory and decent prices. They currently have a very nice Scrambler.
