The rear suspension of the CX is of the trailing-arm type. No matter how low the suspension is, camber remains constant – and as we know, the rear camber in all those hydro Citroëns is usually zero or close to zero.
(Mini perverts will notice the obvious similarity of the rear suspension arrangement with that used in Minis, BMC 1100/1300, Metros and such.)
Of course it would be possible to modify the rear subframe or rear arms so that the latter have some negative camber, but I doubt anybody would get into so much trouble with a CX for merely aesthetical reasons.
Just cannot imagine how much that car, if real,
would tend to understeer...

Absolutely. If that picture would be real, there would be very little CX underneath.
My ‘project’ (i t’s basically fully restored by now, other than paint and the roof ) is a 1987 Peugeot 205 CTi. The rebuilt rear suspension is being installed as we speak. I have owned a BX before. Not the same as a CX, but not worlds apart either.

The BX is a lovely car, and probably one of the very last real Citroëns.
Now that you mention the roof of the CTI... is it possible to get a mohair top for those, instead of the vinyl one? It would be more expensive but certainly longer-lasting

I really like the BX. It’s not the prettiest, but it just oozes character and is great fun to drive too.
When I will replace the roof of the 205 I will certainly not get a plastic one. There has been so much money put in this car, it makes no sense to save a few hundred on the roof. I am questioning what color to pick though, do I go with the standard black or will I go for a dark red?
And no, no AC. I felt it wasn’t worth the trouble and cost. Especially the part, I forgot the name, that is like a radiator and should be placed near the radiator as well. The 205 was never designed for an intercooler, but I have an intercooler now. And an engine that produces a lot of heat and is larger than the car was intended for. This means that there is little space left, especially with proper air flow.
I do have heated seats now though. Despite the stock look.
When I get it back (new suspension and that new rear axle, this time with discs) I’ll make a proper post about it, here on Oppo.

I like the BX a lot. Certainly, you cannot call it “pretty”, but it is a very handsome car.
If I were you I would go for a maroon t
o
p
(not outright red). It may clash with the vibrant red of the carpeting, however. But black body and a maroon mohair top would look quite classy, I think.

I can understand that fitting the A/C was going to be difficult. As you say, thermal management in XU engines is very important too, so maybe the condenser was going to clutter things up a bit.
Regarding the seats... interesting! did you put heating elements in them or you found somewhere heated seats from a colder climate market?

To be honest, maroon is what I meant with ‘Red’ :)
Pictures are hard to find, but I found the picture below. My car is dark grey (‘graphite’)
(Picture from the internet):
I had my interior restored. It was quite decent already, but I had a professional who happens to be specialized in 205 interiors redo some seams, replace some foam and replace 2 pieces of fabric. He installed the heating elements as well. I doubt the 205 was ever available with heated seats. It’s a nice feature to have though, as it enables you to drive topless longer in autumn/spring.

I suspect that’s what you meant, but just in case. Full-on red would not look nice, methinks.
By the way, that white 205 looks spectacular with the fabric top.
I have been wondering about heated seats for a while. Not that I would do it anytime soon (there are several candidates for that improvement).
The upholsterer I usually go to, and my mechanic, on the other hand, are dead against heated seats, even those fitted by the factory. They firmly agreed (this was a conversation they spontaneously went into, nothing to do with my ideas) they they had seen too many car fires that had started in the seats heating elements (!), info I found very surprising.
One question: before fitting the turbocharged engine, did you ever considered fitting the 16V engine from the 309 16V/Mi16/BX 16V? I think Gutmann in Germany was the one who started doing it. The pictures I saw at the time showed that the bonnet needed a little “hump” for clearance.

I did consider the 1.9 16v, or the 2.0 16v from the 306 gti. I decided against it as the 2.0t torque monster is much easier to drive than the peaky rev happy NA 16v engines. This is a cruiser, not a track toy. And I thought my automatic-loving girlfriend was easier to get on board with this much faster FEELING (at low revs) turbo engine as well. It is fast for what it is as well, without any ECU or turbo tuning <7s 0-100. Luckily the engine has a lot more character than a modern turbo engine, without being as dramatic/laggy as one from the 80s. Mine came from a 1996 Lancia Zeta.
You’d be right though, with a 16V there would be no plumbing for the turbo and no intercooler. So more space. Both engines are a straight swap by the way. With stock motor mounts. Only the exhaust manifold requires a bit more space.
The ‘hump’ bonnet is the stock bonnet of the 205 automatic :)
I don’t really see the issue with heated seats. Plenty of cars have it, my daily 406 has it, the 1996 306 convertible I once owned had it too. When it's switched off there is no rust at all. When it would theoretically lead to fire you're sitting on the seat at that time so you'll notice and switch it off. And stop the fire, I imagine.

You took the right route. A big fat swell of mid-range torque is much more usable - and actually faster - in the real world. Also very handy for quicker, safer overtaking maneuvres (I’ve heard that in Scandinavia they even have a name for that, the “log-truck overtaking situation”.)
I wonder if the “hump” is the same you find in other market’s 20s which still used the old 1440 Simca engine?

Well if you worry about wiring then you’d use better material and place it better so chafing won’t be an issue.
The rear axle is coming along nicely now.
