Well here it is. 2006 Volvo V70 2.5T AWD. This really isn’t what I thought I was going to buy, but evidently I have.
197,000kms, timing belt done early at 158k, runs smoothly and quietly, turbo spools and makes it unsettlingly fast for its heft, trans shifts consistently and positively. Everything works, no warnings or lights or anything. My god are the seats ever comfortable. Good stereo, and two of my favour ite things so far are the vents for defrosting the rear windows, and the rear headrests that flip down. Every car with rear headrests should do that.
All that said, the front tires are from 2013, and the rears are from 2010, and they look it. They’re also on 16" 1st gen V70 wheels for some reason. They look small, especially with the jacked-up rear for AWD reasons, but I don’t think I want 17s, for comfort reasons. Also the suspension is generally tired, I’d say it would benefit from shocks, struts, and control arms. It’s nothing dangerous, it’s just a little boaty and wants to wander a but on uneven surfaces. Oh and the fabric on the A-pillars has failing adhesive, which is annoying.
Anyways, here’s some pictures.
So that’s that. We’ll see if this is just a road trip car for the summer, or if I actually like it enough to be a Legacy replacement.

I declare real Ovlov™ hours to commemorate your new car.
Congratulations.

Hoping you can break the losing streak that Volvo owners seem to be having on Oppo. Except for Sovande

Hah, yeah, me too.......I’m banking on this one being more like the nice and reliable P2s I keep reading and hearing about. It was in Nanaimo and Parksville on Vancouver Island, from new till 2016, which almost certainly means old people owned it, then an Audi dealer tech, then a Volvo nerd that I bought it from. Hopefully that all bodes well.

Nice pics! Can't wait for the obligatory flat bed pic

Hey look, same wheels as me! I’d love to try one of those out for a long trip. The V70 above is the comfiest car I’ve ever driven , and I want to see what the newer gen feels like.
Does your backseat fold down armrest have something fancy inside? I've seen built-in booster seats, standard cushions, drink holders, and a few more rare options that I'm blanking on...

Cbell’s Teal V70R has beyond all expectations been a reliable stee d, last I heard

There should be a partition net just behind the rear seat head rests

Key words "last I heard"

To be fair when your other car is a brand new FCA work van with doors that fall off, expectations might be skewed

Thats Cbell, different user....
... Right?

3 minutes of internet sleuthing says you're right. In that case...
Who has the teal V70r?

Yeah, the Perfos are an odd wheel choice. I would run something bigger. 16 x 6.5 doesn't let you run much tire width.

It’s got some sort of cup holder situation, I’ll take a picture of it in a bit

Haha shhhh
![]() 06/15/2019 at 19:22 |

Yeah it’s got spots for a net to hook into near the roof, and the manual shows that metal bars to be a partition there were an option too

I’m assuming someone liked the stock wheels and kept them when they sold the car, but who knows. If I keep this thing long term, these will be the winter wheels and I’ll get a different set for summer

Looking forward to a V70 -Legacy comparison. A road trip car sounds like a great purpose.

If I freshen up this ones suspension and tire situation, I can do a solid comparison. If not, it’s hard to judge, but I’ll try anyways. It seems like it’ll be a pretty phenomenal highway barge

Congrats!
Now don’t go gettin’
rid of any of
your old ones.

Does it have the third row seat? Or is that a storage compartment.
![]() 06/15/2019 at 20:56 |

Storage and a spare tire, and a rear diff

Thanks! The Raider and the 144 are sticking around, but if this is reliable, and my mechanic thinks it’s a good one to put money into, I might be selling the Subaru

The seats are what cemented our 05 V70 as the roadtrip car of choice, and the A pillar fabric comes with the territory.

Don’t put tires on it. :-)x

We’ll see, the r ears are old enough I might have no choice. But I’ll probably just get less used ones....

A much later car so you should (fingers crossed) have very few problems. Again, weird of them to plop Perfos on there, but as you mentioned this trim had some pretty nice rim options so someone probably nabbed them along the way. Never fear, Volvo has an endless plethora of weirdly named but quite attractive OEM wheel options at your whim, if you can find them at a reasonable price. A wesome buy !

At first I was bummed that this body style is so much less boxy its predecessors, but it’s really grown on me and now it’s one of my favorite Volvo wagon generations.
Yours looks like it’s been well cared for; I hope it serves you well.

C ongrats from across the pond.
Mine d5 Manuel driven started to slip clutch when i want to change the speed to fast, and it’s £1000 job, so I am fighting with thoughts about getting another banger for the money, but those seats, cmon they are worth it.

Thanks! I wish we had the D5 as an option over here, I’ve heard a lot of good things about that motor. The seats really are excellent
