Manual 4Runner. Obviously the rust is a bit concerning, but even with that the price tag seems to good to be true. What am I missing? Why shouldn’t I go check this out?

Good price even with a rusty body. The lower link mount looks solid which is where rust kinda starts on the frame iirc.

I’ve driven this generation with the auto. They are great trucks. Price seems about right considering it has 300,000 miles. These are reliable but anything that’s been driven that much is going to have some issues pop up. If you are OK with that go check it out. This generation is still pretty easy to work on yourself. All Toyota trucks of that era are prone to rust issues, though, so I would definitely crawl under it and see if its just the bumper or if it has spread to the frame.

I didn’t notice the mileage until after I posted; goes a long way towards explaining the price.
I prefer the older body styles, by the 3rd generation they just look too bloated to me, but at least it’s not silver, the true curse of the modern 4Runner.

I have a friend with almost the same 4-runner they just drove it to yellowstone and back towing a travel trailer. It has 280,000 miles on it. She said it didn’t miss a beat.

The third gen looks a bit bloated, but it still drives small and has a nice short dashboard. I’ve driven the 4th gen a lot and they are and do feel big - though the 4th gens still handle better than trucks they competed with like the Trailblazer.

Thanks.
It’s going to be raining all day, otherwise I’d be on my way to check it out. Bit of a hassle. That’s one reason I want something to supplement my Jeep: a dry vehicle on rainy days.

I didn’t even think about tow capacity. That much more appealing.

T hey're not big at all. You can easily open the passenger door from the driver's seat.

I would have to get used to opening doors during t he summer, but at least I wouldn’t have to lean over to crank the window during the winter.

Here’s another I’m considering: a Liberty with 1/3rd the mileage.

The rust I see doesn’t bother me, but they aren’t showing the parts that actually rust. Go see it and before getting in, lie down and look at the inside of the frame on the passenger side next to the muffler. I’d bet you find that it’s rusted through right there. They pretty much all are. Mine has been patched there, I looked at a lot of others and all either had a hole or had been patched. The mounts for the suspension links right under there also rust, but there’s something magical about the heat from the muffler and the frame that kills it. The other place besides those mounts is the very end of the frame where it’s open and the trailer hitch mounts on the inside.
If it isn’t rusted through, buy it. If it is, may still be worth it depending on how bad.

You can open the door on the highway and it won't ding at you so you could just take it off.

You are not going more than 65 with a trailer, with an old 4Runner

To be fair, the fastest I’ve ever been in my 4Runner was with the payload maxed out.
