I remember when I was about 5 (~1982) , the woman who lived next door traded her yellow Fox T-tops Mustang for one of these. I recall it had a “Luxus” badge. I had been enamored with the Mustang, this didn’t excite me so much.

I see one of these on the road in my neighborhood every few weeks, a lot of patina but still moving along, in a pleasing shade of blue.

I love that this one is called the “Luxury Edition” but doesn’t have A/C. The 80s were hilarious.

That badge is familiar, maybe it actually said “Luxury”. I am pretty sure the car I remember was light brown or tan .

Here in the PNW, cars without AC were not unusual into the 80s, and not just basic econoboxes, but normal midrange cars.  70s and 60s cars often lack AC unless it was standard.

Back in like 2009 my friend’ s Dad bought one of these, running and driving, for 300 bucks. The thing was MINT, and I loved the design of it, the front judged Hood was neat too.

I tried to see if he’d sell it to me, but I lost touch with that friend for awhile because I told her that I hated her boyfriend, in some not so nice words . She didn’t like that.

I remember the early ‘80s when Datsun came out with their luxury version of the 810 called the “Maxima”. It had everything you could want in a luxury car - power windows, power locks, air conditioning, a cassette deck, velour interior, two-tone paint, alloys - basically everything that may have been an option on other lesser  cars. Even a wagon was available.

This is my dream 626. Take this very car, weld sheet metal over the hole between the trunk and backseat, modern suspension, and drop a naturally asperated 20B in the engine bay. Maybe some strut bars for additional stiffness.

Sleeper of sleepers.

Of course, this will never will happen. But it's been my sleeper fantasy for at least 20 years.

I

WANT

IT

so hard.

Seriously. I don’t even care that it has a slush box instead of the stick. First gen 626 coupes rank among the most beautiful designs of the 3-box aesthetic for me.

Man, if the current price stayed, and this was within a day's drive of El Paso, I would probably take out a signature loan for this.

You forgot the s eat back map pockets, pile carpet, sun visor mirror , and dashboard clock - luxuries you expect to pay extra for, but which  Datsun from Nissan gives you as standard in the 810 Maxima.

It sounds like you have a copy of the brochure, or perhaps just watched a commercial on YouTube...
