The 1968 Baja 1000 was crazier than you could imagine.

Some snippets from the January 1969 issue of Rod & Custom’s coverage of the 1968 Baja 1000.

In the production 2 wheel drive class, the largest car was an Olds Toronado, the smallest, a Subaru 360. Neither did too well. A Saab 96 V4 won the class. In ‘69 Lindqvist again won the class in a Saab, but cut about ten hours off his ‘68 time - placing much higher overall (indeed he would’ve been in the top three if had managed the ‘69 time in ‘68).

Motorcycles did the best overall, and surprisingly, modified 4-wheel drive vehicles did horribly, whereas production versions placed high overall.

Kinja'd!!!2

I’m guessing Garner/Patrick is James Garner and co-driver.
