In case you missed it, Team O’Neil is now doing a series called “will it rally” which is exactly what it sounds like. They don’t take cars out to actual races, but they do run them around a timed lap of their roads and generally abuse them on the skidpad/slalom. So far, they did a 2000 Chevy Astro van (awd) and a 2014 Mini (awd too). Looks like a blast, and I hope they do many more of these. Both of these were in winter. “Whoop touched the snowbank don’t worry about that”
There’s room for improvement in the videos but don’t worry, YouTube Commenters will take care of that.

I’m shocked that it drove like a small pickup, except I maybe would have compared it an S10.

Something about a van sideways in a turn is intoxicating...

I hope they get their hands on an awd Chrysler van at some point. Or hell, one of the FWD ones would work, too. Pre-ABS and you could left-foot-brake the crap out of it, probably get the rear end around no problem.

I know my van when pushed on dirt/gravel gets very tail happy. I can come in hot, tap the brake while turning in hard, and the rear just kinda hangs out, then you just whip around the corner using the throttle to keep everything in check. It’s loads of fun.
Strangely enough, it’s a totally different experience with the base suspension like mine than it was in our 95 Sport wagon, which came factory with better brakes/larger front sway bar/added rear sway bar. That van was stable and planted when pushed, although I never tried it off road, it reacted completely different from my van.

When I worked for a High-end home electronics/security/automation company is Stowe VT, all our company vans were AWD Astrovans/Safaris. We routinely drove them like that when they weren’t full of expensive p lasma TVs and stereos...
