Oh wait, it was the Honda that needed jumped/is having some electrical issues.

Apparently, my dads Accord is having some starting issues. I found this out today after washing my car and attempting to move the Honda back in the garage. The weird part is I just took it to PepBoys 10 minutes earlier and it started/drove with no issues.

Luckily the trusty German car was there to give it a boost. It’s going to the dealer tomorrow.

Kinja'd!!!

In other news, me and some buddies attempted installing my new exhaust last night. Unfortunately, some of the bolts were just too difficult to reach, so I’m just going to schedule an appointment with a local performance shop tomorrow. It will be on soon, I promise.

Cheers!

I think with the modern cars the knock is you have to take it to a mechanic  to install things like exhausts.

I had to laugh when I had my MGB and someone needed a jump. I’ll guarantee there wasn’t a single  person that drove by thinking the MGB was doing the boosting.

And the mechanic will need a masters in electrical engineering

There’s no better feeling in the world than rescuing a “reliable” car with an unreliable one. During winters, I loved pulling people out of the snow in a Cummins Ram 3500 with the automatic. Even better was rescuing my buddy’s S2000 with my B6 S4, which was so temperamental it may have set off the alarm while driving. That was a fantastic car... when it worked.

I’ve jumped my GTI and my TR6 from my 85 Jaguar.

Or you just get a service manual and the correct tools for the job. There are a few things you need a shop/special tools for with the mk7 Golf, but installing an exhaust shouldn’t be one of them.

Not usually - exhaust installs on my S3 and BRZ were both very straightforward.

I was just coming here to make the joke you already made. Our Odyssey ate one battery at the 3-year mark, then that one just 18 months later (while we were on vacation, no less...thankfully there was a dealer nearby who replaced it under warranty after a few phone calls).

Our Honda dealer is like “Yeah, they have full 5-year warranties, so keep your paperwork, you’ll get 2 years out of it.”

My VWs all got 5-7 years from every battery, even though they used the most expensive batteries sold at Autozone.

I guess this battery had a bad cell, at least according to the dealer this morning. Replaced under warranty with no issue , so no real fault of the Accord. However, I did have to laugh pulling my slightly older German car up to jump it.

MK7 batteries seem to either go early or last a few years, so I’m hoping I can get a few more out of mine.

I guess it ended up being a bad battery cell, but yeah neither our Germans cars have done that or our Jeep.

Pretty sure I’ve never had a battery go bad in under 5 years, usually they last me 8-10 in my vehicles.

I n AZ batteries can die in a year or less. Constant 120 degree heat will do that. It’s a gold mine for replacement warranty claims, though.

I buy AGM and they tend to last the life of the car, except Yellow Top Optimas.

I guess I woulda though our -30 degree to over 100 degree sweeps over the course of the year would be harder on them?

It’s true that the change in temp will also punish them, but quick temp swings (like how deserts do) affect them a lot. AZ swings from 120 summer days to about 60 summer nights, and in winter it’ll go from 85 to 35 in a single day repeated ly, and that’s murder on lead-acids
