You’d think so, between the plate on the Benz and the Jolly, but no.

Hinsdale, IL. All of the cars listed were in a 2 block radius of each other except the GT2RS.

Appears to be a low grille. I have another picture but kinja is kinja.

I guess in that area, these things only come out in the summer, and people take advantage of it. IIRC, the sequence on that plate is late 1971-72, and could be original to the car. As you probably know, even a driver quality 3.5 low grille cabrio is worth real money these days, easily over 100K.

I’m sure the two cars pictured are “Indy 500” cars - they come out Memorial Day weekend, drive 500 miles, then get put away (Labor Day).

There is a lot of money in Hinsdale- it’s common to see G Wagens— driven by teenagers.

I’ve loved the 280 SE cab for a long long time.  That car was better than driver quality from what I could tell.  I’ll try to load the other photo I have, it shows off the wood dash quite nicely.

I bet there are some amazing cars stuck away in suburban Chicago, especially in the tony northern suburbs. Although the money might not be as old here, there is some dynastic wealth local to me as well, and some interesting oldies come out of the woodwork from time to time . Someone near me was DDing a blue 3.5 cabrio not too long ago, would even have it out in the rain. Been a while since I have seen it though.

I know a MB nut who had started to restore a W112 300SE coupe. He claimed 5 grand was into the dash/binnacle wood alone, and this was at the prices of 20 years ago.

Hinsdale isn’t quite on the level of parts of the North Shore, but it’s up there.

There are some great cars hidden away here, for sure. I’m in the habit of peeking in garages whenever I’m walking or biking (tonight’s pix were courtesy of a short bike ride). Just in my neighborhood (not Hinsdale) there is a 2 seat Thunderbird, 65 Mustang (same garage), Ferrari 400, 1st gen Corvair convertible, early Super Bee, W-30 442, 65 Bo nneville vert, 58 Ford, 1st gen Falcon, and 1st gen Chevy II off the top of my head. And then there’s 1 house with two E21 323s, an early AMG (80s S class), W124 coupe and I believe an R107. And a 2nd gen Camaro.

In that whole group I’ve only seen 3 of those cars ever outside the garage (I just saw the Ferrari on the road the other day).

Somewhere near me is a guy with a 300SL roadster that he actually drives. And I’m pretty sure he owns a 930 Turbo as well. Both cars have a hitch mounted  bike rack.

Here’ s a better picture of the interior. I didn’t take a shot of the front, but weren’t all of the 3.5s low grille cars?

That’s right.  All 3.5s are low grille, but not all low grille are 3.5 (but I think it is generally a value add).
