That is a lot when you lay it out like that..but wow as a Yankee, I’ve always lusted over the Scirocco. So good looking, would buy one in a heartbeat over my GTI.

The main reason that Golf and Corolla are the two top-selling “models” of all time is because they were really sub-brands until themselves. SOOO many variations.
Don’t even get me started on the weird prioritization of models in the US, where VW is normally just 2-4% market share. We normally have just 2-3 Golf/Jetta models available at any given time, and it changes every year.

Its a door, top hinged. You open it to put things in and take them out.

What if it opens sideways like a Mini Clubman, or older Rav4

How is that different from a sedan’s trunk?

Unfortunately they discontinued the Scirocco back in 2017 (though you could still buy and order a new one way into 2018).

Ooo now we’re getting spicy, is that a tailgate? It is at the tail of the vehicle, and it opens like a gate

It’s the difference between an aperture into a storage space and an aperture into the main cabin.
A coupe (2 door) and a saloon (4 door) aren’t the same as the 3 and 5 door hatch back.
Just as a 5 door liftback/hatchback aren’t the same as an estate.

I’d say the difference is that the trunk is smaller and used solely for storage / transporting dead bodies . The hatch is not really separated form the rest of the passenger compartment.

They are Audis, not VWs.

By god you’re right, I’ve always been an advocate for hatchbacks because of their superior cargo space but a hatchback would be a terrible vehicle to store a body.

yea, a hatch would be terrible for that. You might as well tie it to the roof racks.

I love that technically the scirocco is a squashed
3 door
golf built on the old architecture
and it drives stateside
fans that they don’t get it.
But when
they get the actual 3 door golf no one buys them and they become objects of lust until they’re discontinued.
Happy owner of a 3 door gti. :)

I can understand the different names.
Ford used the Focus name for all it’s cars.
Focus C-Max which became it’s own model, C-Max.
The sub-brand thing is starting to get out of hand.
Even SEAT are doing it now. Cupra used to be the sporty end of SEAT, now, it’s it’s own sub-brand.

If we’re gonna call an Eos a Golf, include the Passat, which is just a larger Golf Sedan

I’d love a viper green metallic VW Scirocco 1.4TSi manual.

The Eos is no less a Golf than the Golf Cabrio.

I really don’t see how you can consider them to be different versions of the same car. Golf 3 door/5 door/plus/sv/estate all being Golfs I’m on board with, but adding a trunk significantly alters the form factor. Soft top convertible looks “Golf-y” (I also did not know there was still one being made!) but the hardtop convertible looks “Jetta-y”.
The logical conclusion of this post is that all MQB platform vehicles are, in fact, Golfs.

Nah, I don’t need a larger engine.
I’m happy with a smaller more economical engine.
123bhp is enough, it was for my Mk2 Superb estate 1.4TSi
148bhp, 1.4TSi ACT Su perb liftback
148bhp, 1.5TSi ACT Superb estate

The Eos is an ex tended Golf Cabrio to accommodate the hard top roof.
The Jetta is a Golf with a boot.
The estate is a Golf with a larger boot than the Jetta.
No. A ll MQBs can’t be considered Golfs.

I mean...
The Audi A3 is a Golf with a better interior and AWD, the TT is a liftback coupe Golf with a nice interior, the Polo is a smaller Golf, and
the T-Cross, T-Roc, Tayron, Tharu, and Tiguan are longer, taller, lifted Golfs by the same argument...

So ignore the two Audis I mentioned. Why would a Polo and all the T-crossovers
not
be Golfs by the same logic that a Jetta is?
Svend
> I like cars: Jim Spanfeller is one ugly motherfucker
06/07/2019 at 12:25 | 0 |
Because the Polo is a different car entirely, always has been , as is the Passat.
The T crossovers just share the same platform.
The Jetta is an evolution of the Bora.
VW acknowledges they are all related. So who am I to argue with the people that make the cars.

If Jetta/Bora and Golf were the same car, they’d have the same name, like the Focus hatch and sedan, wouldn’t they?
These are the same people who called the CC a four door coupe, so I’m not really going to give their naming conventions much credence.
Svend

Not necessarily.
While Ford kept the name the same for the Focus, they changed it for the Fiesta and taller Fiesta, the Fusion (our Fusion).
The Ford Focus C-Max, left to become just the Ford C-Max.
Like the Renault Megane Scenic, became the Renault Scenic.

Wait, your tall Fiesta (we call it the Ecosport I think) is called a Fusion? I know our Fusion is your Mondeo, right? Weird!

No, our Ford Fusion was based on the Fiesta Mk5.
Fiesta Mk5.
our Fusion.

It’s like ‘Full of the sound of grand fury’ found with the VW Golf Plus.
Golf and Golf Plus.
The Fusion and Golf Plus were popular with the older generation because the roof was raised and the ground clearance was higher to aid ingress and egress. This was before the CUV/SUV thing started off.
For the elderly and infirm the Ecosport took the place of the discontinued Ford Fusion.
