I’m sure plenty of you have driven larger things, but this is the biggest vehicle I’ve driven so far. It’s entertaining.

A 2007 1 ton GMC Savana box truck. Probably a 6.0L V8, but I’m not sure.

I mean, it’s not exactly a Volvo replacement.
Sure you didn’t go too far with the boxy body style?

I’ve probably repaired more on one of these than on every vehicle I’ve ever owned combined. Driving these solo in rush hour traffic still wakes me up in a cold sweat.
Why do you have one today?

Can you please load everything behind the rear wheels and record yourself doing a wheelie? For science?

Pop open the hood or run the VIN... for all you know, it might have the Vortec 8100 V8!

Picking things up my work bought, on different ends of two cities. The usual guy who drives it didn’t feel like it today, and I like driving it so I offered to go instead.

I haven’t been on the highway, but it probably does. Has plenty of grunt left at 70km/hr

I doubt it, it’s surprisngly decent on gas, I can’t imagine the 8.1 would only use 1/4 a tank in a day.
Also I have no idea how to tell them apart even if I did look under the hood lol

Does it have a 4.8? The one at where I work does. I don’t understand why. It has a six speed auto transmission and is never, ever in 6th. Why don't these all have 6.0 liters?

If the 8th digit in the VIN is a G, then it’s the Vortec 8100.
If it’s a U, it’s the Vortec 6000 LQ4 engine.
For other 8th digit letters/numbers, see here:

I doubt it, but I also don’t know. It could be, but it seems to have a good amount of torque. I think this one has a 4 speed, it feels like the 4L60E in my old blazer

It’s a U, so it is indeed the 6.0. My random guessing skills are decent, apparently

Because GMs weird engine/trans pairing scheme. My dad has a 2500 van with a 4.8 and also rarely hits 6th. The 1/2 tons got the 5.3 as a base engine which is great. The 3/4 and 1 tonners got the 4.8 base and 6.0 as an option. Youd think the smallest (payload) van gets the smallest engine and scale from there... but that would make too much sense.

What do you like about driving it? Driving this large a vehicle always makes me really nervous the whole time.

Probably not a ton, it’s not that big a box. Enough to get your business started at least

I think just how generally truck-ish it is. It makes me want to try driving a properly large truck, but in an area with wide lanes first. It’s comfy, you have a nice view over many things on the road, the V8 makes decent power. I don’t care if anyone is tailgating me, and other cars can’t try and bully me. One of the roads I was on had narrow lanes, and that was a bit stressful, but I think I’ve driven it enough in industrial areas already to get used to the size, so it was pretty easy to start driving in tighter areas. My favourite tip is that if the mirrors will fit, the box will fit. That put my mind at ease a lot.

my favorite was an International CF600 rental from Penske. I’ve been enamored with diesel engines since middle school, and the screaming VT275 (piece of junk that it was) was chicken soup for the soul. I know it’s good that modern diesels are as clean as they are (and concomitantly quiet) but I prefer diesels have at least some clatter. If nothing else, at least to say “hey, I’m WORKING up here!”
it made me miss my 2000 Ram 2500 with the 24V Cummins.
