The converter for the jag arrived today, it’s an FTI 9.5" conveter, 3200 stall speed and still retains the lock-up for the 700r4.

The stall speed might be a bit high given the weight of the car and factory rear end ratio but I plan on homebrewing the factory diff into a dana 44 unit which will give an unlimited choice of rear end gears. I’m thinking a 4.11 would suit it nicely

Awesome! A good stall completely changes driving something equipped with a slushbox. I paid $200 for a used Yank 3500 billet and daily drove it nearly a decade in my ‘98 Z28. They rev a little higher around town and consume a little more fuel out of lockup, but once lockup engages it’s like any other torque converter.

What I loved most was being able to launch the car a little over 3k RPM (although flashing up from just above idle produced the best 60ft) and the minimal RPM drop between shifts. It would hover right around 6000 RPM during a run, right in the power band.

I’ve still got it in the car, but spun (I suspect) a rod bearing so it’s under the knife. I may send the stall back out to Yank for a cut/clean/restall. I’d like to take it up to 4. The lockup clutch seems to have gotten weak, but it could also be the 4L60e finally giving me fits.

What cooler are you running? I just ran a big fin-style RV cooler I got from the parts store. I’m not sure if plates or fins are better, but mine certainly has proven itself.

I’m not sure about the cooler yet, the radiator I'm using has a built in trans cooler so I may just piggyback a small fin style cooler after it.

I bypassed the one in the radiator and ran with the RV cooler only. I don’t see how using both could hurt in any way. Either way, definitely run extra cooling. It’s cheap, simply insurance.
