Why did no one tell me about these??

It looked like your typical beater UJM/café mashup (at least from a side profile) but THAT SOUND. How..? The owner did a few runs to redline and by the end I was laughing like a madman. I don’t think I’ve felt a reaction of this strength since the first test drive in my Miata.

Here’s a few videos of said bike. I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that the above bike and that sound go together

Great... Now I have to go change my pants.

These things are INCREDIBLE. My old neighbor back in Minnesota has/had one (haven’t seen him in years).

I apologize for nothing.

I never heard his running... It’s a bit of a story, see- I got to know him when I was in late middle/early high school. He was an officer in the Army Reserve, and went active duty when I was a sophomore. I didn’t meet up with him again until a few years ago when he had retired from the military and moved back to his farm. Ironically, he was stationed at Naval Air Station Pensacola while I was stationed an hour down the road at Hurlburt Field. It was while he was living in Florida that he acquired the CBX.

To me carbs are witchcraft given flesh, so yeah the idea of having to f*ck with 6 of ‘em.... Hooo-boy. Sounds rough

But... Worth it?

NO IT WASNT IT TURNED OUT TO BE OLD FOULED PLUGS

I lost touch with him a few years back. I was more into the modern stuff that handled well. not crap that required 4 hours of tinkering for each hour of ride time

I made the mistake of volunteering to help balance the carbs on an old XJ12 racecar once. Never again. No matter how fricking good it sounded afterwards.

So I feel your pain.

They sound and look amazing but as Peter said...oh boy.

They date from that magnificent period when automotive engineers  ruled the world and no-one else had the guts, knowledge or even common sense to ask...

What.The. Fuck. Have. You. Done?

...I wonder, is Megasquirt an option? I know it’d be messing with the originality, but, well, fuck carbs.

one single-barrel carb per cylinder, the CBX had a straight 6 . that was the way the UJMs were. Even my co-worker’s Valkyrie (flat 6) has 6 carbs.

at any rate, fuck carburetors. They’re best left in the dustbin of history. just like points, distributors, etc. old timers (especially old Harley grumps and British bike snobs) will natter on about how you used to be able to fix a bike on the side of the road with only a handful of tools.

Me?  I’ll take the bike that won’t leave me on the side of the road.

meanwhile, here in ‘Murica, we just shove a goddamned 502 big block in and call it a “bike.”

this. 100% this.

correct, I cant fix an Fuel injection issue at the side of the road.

also correct: A fuel injection bike is about 1/1000th as likely to leave me on the side of the road

most bikes are 1 carb / cylinder. no messing aorund with weird intake manifolds or anything.

the only 2 bikes that I know that use less then 1 carb / cylidner is old ducatis (single solex carb...which was a POS. ppl swab them for dual webers)
and older gold wingers, which being a flat 4 with 1000cc, stra ight up used a car carburator.

Not into bikes myself but as a lover of all things inline-6 I second the notion. And nothing looks more badass than a huge transverse i6 jammed into a bike frame!

If you know what you’re doing and have the right tools syncing carbs is easy. If they won’t sync properly you know they’re dirty or something else is  wrong. The CBX is a bit more work, but guys have been doing it for thirty or so years now, so there are some well known best practices.

Also while not carbureted, Hondas NC series of bikes buck the trend by only having 1 throttle body for the 2 cylinders.
