That’s right: Atlantic salmon on cedar planks.
And it will be delicious

The recipe wasn’t Pacific specific.

This PNW folk hates salmon. Don’t let anyone know, because they’ll banish me.

I’m glad you’re not tacking on the additional carbon footprint required to get PNW salmon all the way over there. You eat the salmon from your side of the country, we’ll eat the salmon from our side of the country, and everybody will be happy, although we’ll be happier.

For those who don’t get it, the Chinook salmon is the state bird of Portlandia.

The cedar doesn’t catch on fire? I’ve always wanted to try this, but am afraid of inferno.

Soak it in water for a minimum of an hour, then throw fish on planks, put over coals. Cook with lid on. Easy peasy. Can't recommend it enough.
Now, I have had them light on fire as I'm taking it off. Extra oxygen with the lid off, plus salmon fat dripping on the hot coals below as you take it off can lead to a flare up. So, big spatula to remove quick.

L ove salmon, (pacific or atlantic.) I’ll usually just put it skin side down off to the side of the coals with some salt, pepper , lemon juice and dill.... I’m lucky enough to have a retired father who loves nothing better than to beach/cast fish all day so I occasionally reap the benefits...

Does the cedar plank imbue any flavor to the fish or serve another purpose ? I’ve always grilled mine straight on the grate.

The plank is soaked in water first and keeps the fish moist. You do also get a cedar smoke flavor imparted.

I wipe the grate down with olive oil, wipe some oil on the fish, sprinkle with garlic salt & some pepper, then grill it flesh side down for a few mins. Oil the skin side then flip it and let it cook the rest of the way through.
