I added a roll bar extension to make sure I pass the “broomstick test” which is never enforced but it’s where the top of your helmet has room should you end up upside down. Most track organizers pretend to enforce it. Still I like not having brain damage so uh yeah.

You can see the wink rally mirror in there too. The mirrors on this car suck. That’s why the previous owner merged into a blind spot to get a surprise which is why the car was $2500. Crushed right quarter panel. Looks like hell. Previous owner was pretty damn bummed.

Doesn’t leak a drop of fluids. I do need to finish a suspension repair. Something was bent. Aligning it properly isn’t possible yet. I have all the parts but I got the toe control arm half removed before the bolt stripped which is going to be a right bastard to sort out but hey. So it goes when working on cars. Five minute job? Set aside a couple weeks if you’ve got a day job.

Still I’m stoked.

Yes I know the bar  needs padding. It’ll get there.

Is that your cellphone mount? How do you like it attached to the windshield when you go over potholes and the like? I get scared it'll drop off and crack my phone screen.

That one holds up fine but I use my phone’s video camera while racing and use a much stronger mount that I have to re-find and buy again as I don’t know where it went. Or I might just epoxy this one to the dash or windshield or something. I’ve never had a phone come out of the mount but I have noticed that most of the holders use a hard plastic suction cup which doesn’t work very well. Also some windshields seem to be better than others. My girlfriend’s phone mount falls off the windshield of her Jetta pretty much overnight, while parked. Maybe the windshield needs an acetone wipe down or something.

BTW with a good cell phone mount and an OBD2 wifi or bluetooth dongle and an app (Harry’s Lap Timer is great) you can get full video of your laps overlaid on a track map along with telemetry from your car such as how much gas, braking, fuel flow, G meter, etc. It’s basically a $2,000 data ac quisition setup for the cost of a phone mount and a $15 OBD2 reader from Amazon. Of course if the mount comes off while you’re cornering as hard as you can the price will go up quickly and dramatically so it’s handy to have an extra old phone laying around for that sort of stuff.

How easy is it to fit this? I might buy a 986 myself.

Super easy. It’s a little pricey though. The bar was ~$700 and they make nice looking padding to go with it for another $230 or so, but I don’t care how it looks so $18 worth of roll bar padding and zip ties and I’ll find something else to spend that $210 on.

Dead easy install though. Just don’t tighten anything all the way until you have all the bolts in.
