I’ve had an LG G6 for about two years now that I got for “free” back when I worked foe LG. Lately, it’s been taking a shit on me- won’t start, stopped receiving texts, gets absurdly hot, crap battery (10% per hour idling with the screen locked on battery saver) and generally isn’t really very good compared to newer stuff. Also, I find it too big. I’d prefer something closer in size to mu iPhone 5s I had before, but with modern hardware. Yes, I know, iPhon e SE exists, but I think they only sell them as refurbished units which I’m hesistant to do (but they’re only about $120 for a refurbished one so...)

I also like the UI on my LG. It’s pretty similar to iPhone UI. I don’t really use third party apps, so that’s not much o f a concern to me, but I don’t really want another iPhone because of Apple’s habit of pushing firmware updates that make hardware operate poorly so you get a new phone.

What would you recommend, Oppo? What is the used Honda Fit of cell phones at the moment?

I am using a samsung galaxy s5 and am still happy with it. If I were to go new, the top contender for me is the Pixel 3a.

Right now I say something midrange like the Pixel 3a.

x2 I’m not looking forward to apple making this obsolete, though I don’t like the dirt collection speakers and the lightning connection can get iffy  but good customer service. Which is more than I can say for Samsung. I had an expanding battery in my S4 and they blew it off. Ironic a few months later when their shit started exploding.

Picked up a Pixel 3 for half price last time they were on sale. Easily the best phone I’ve owned. Based on reviews, I would definitely recommend checking out the 3a. Retail is $399, but last I knew pretty much everyone had incentives on them.

I really like my one plus 6t so far and it's been about a year I think. It does have drawbacks like no wireless charging and not officially water resistant but it's built to a good price point and its been way better than my previous Samsung S7. The in screen fingerprint scanner isn't great in my experience but face unlock usually works pretty well so I don't really mind. Any other questions ask away!

OnePlus! Doesn't matter which one, they're all pretty solid! Remember how I used to buy a new phone every month? Well the OnePlus 3T solved that.

What about the random shutting down issue? The internet scared me away from the 3a. Experience any of that? Otherwise I'm buying 2 for the wife and i right now.

I did forget to ask OP which carrier. OnePlus wouldn’t work well if it’s Verizon, s ometimes even their “certified devices” are a crapshoot. Pixel 3a seems a safer choice for compatibility.

My 3 has been flawless for the month that I’ve had it, but it’s not a 3a, so that doesn’t really say anything about the newer phone. It seems like people always have issues with early production Google phones, which is part of why I waited 6 months after release to pick up my 3. Also because there’s no way I’m ever paying $800 for a phone and I missed the Black Friday sale .

But it looks like Google has been replacing the 3a’s that do have issues, so it doesn’t look like you’d be stuck with a bricked phone if you got a bad one.

I will be replacing the two LG G6s on our plan this summer, likely with either pixel 3s or 3as depending on what incentives exist.

I have a Pixel 3a. I haven’t had any of the random shut down issues. I bought the phone on May 10th. I have had a couple Bluetooth issues, though. Also, it doesn’t use Gorilla Glass for the screen, and it cracks pretty easy. It took 2-3 weeks for my screen protectors and phone case to come in, and I woun d up cracking the screen before they showed up. It’s $100-120 for a new screen, which is about the same as an iPhone and 1/3 the price of Samsung’s curved screens.

It’s way faster than the Samsung J7 V that I had. Battery life lasts me throughout the day. I really like the camera, too. I also like that it is narrower than the Samsung J7. Verizon just had a sale on them for $350 without a trade-in. I think after my trade in, I got it for about $315.

I’m sticking with Samsung Galaxy A series phones. They’re made with last year’s S series tech, so they’re both cheaper and have all the kinks worked out. I picked up a 2017 A5 a year and a half ago  for $300 and it’s been marvelous.
