Classic car prices are all over the map, but:
- very few cars newer than 1972 have all that much value
- value is highly dependent on how much bondo/rust the car has - and bondo doesn’t usually show up in pictures
- a lot of cars are listed at nonsensical prices because people use the Saturday afternoon highlights from Mecum and B-J as comps- when those cars are mostly perfect trailer queens.
This one seems like a reasonable price if it’s not full of bondo - but can easily be a CP if it won’t attract a magnet.

Has to be rust somewhere. Either that or scam.

Nobody really lusted after a ‘75 Camaro when they were a kid. They were the first year with a catalytic so they were a low point in horsepower and they had the big bumper before they hid it under urethane. It will run and drive like my ‘71 but to collectors it’s not as desirable . It’s weird but the same kinds of things happen in other collecting worlds too. Certain editions of the same book are worth wildly different prices.

I’m betting that the quarters won’t attract a magnet...

a lot of it is what WilliamsSW said, it’s technically a Malaise Era car so they don’t have a ton of inherent value. Nobody’s really interested in a concourse, “numbers matching” 1975 with a smog-choked engine. So really anything worth buying would be something someone built up themselves, and at that point their value becomes strictly whatever anyone is willing to pay for it.

I'm thinking there's no floor under that trunk carpet and it's clipped in place or something.

74 was the first year of 5mph bumpers, and the start of the malaise era. Most collectors consider 73 the last year of "real" cars, with the rest of the 70s being of little interest/value.

If I ever have to sell my LJ I’ll definitely include that fact.

Have you seen the shape of second gen quarter panels? I’d guess about 25 % of them will hold a magnet at this point.

Good comments I generally agree with, but more and more exceptions. Yes, classic car price, especially US car prices, are still taking a major hit from the days of early emission controls and worse looks from bumper safety regs. One of the rare times when cars got worse from most any measure of desirability than their predecessors for a number of years.
If you take the 75 Camaro it isn’t much different than a 70, but the seventy had better looks and chrome bumpers, you can probably make a 75 perform like a 70 or better pretty easily these days, but from a collector s t anpoint the stigma still applies.
Survivor seventies and eighties Honda’s and Toyotas and Z cars and 51 0s are breaking this rule, that is large part these cars were still getting bettter, good cars with good memories. German cars continued to get better or at least suffer less from the problems the American cars had through the early use of fuel injenction, and much better adaptation to required bumper cars than their British import competitors, what was the question again?

Maybe Indy is full of uppity grammar Nazis who just don’t tolerate the old “ runs good” trope. It really hurts the marketing.

A 70-73 Camaro z28. Commonly referred to as a “split bumper” as it only has two “bumperettes” rather than a full bumper. I think the RS and SS trims also has the split bumper. I’m not Camaro expert but I know the split bumpers are the most valuable 2nd gens.

I think that’s true of most cars that age and up now.
Been crawling under a bunch of 60s-70s cars the last year or two and it seems like 90% are mostly filler right behind the rear wheel (among other places).

Good point - a 69 Z-28 damn well better be numbers matching to fetch a high price.
A 1975 Z-28 might be worth more with a better engine than stock.

Hey, if it "runs good" and the "breaks" don't need work it has to be a good deal, right?
