What is this, a bridge for ants!?!

11'8" breeds a kind of fatal optimism. “My vehicle can’t be that high, can it”? Then, a bit of “oooh, almost” failure at the last gasp.

6'2" can only catch the utterly stupid or inattentive , IMO.

How does that even? It’s not even close!!

That said, the driver got 5 years in jail for this.

I was in a deck in downtown ATL a couple days ago and it was like 6'5" — I actually got out and stood next to the minivan just to check. Freaking SMALL. I’m still not sure how all those pickups made it through.

I like how the bus name is covered up in the photo. Either a hasty photoshop, or somebody from the bus company ran down there with a roll of gray tape.

I’ve driven under that one. I t’s incredibly unnerving, even in a low car.

Christ, why?? The city/county engineer who passed off these plans is an asshole. There is no reason for a crossing like this.

Did...did the driver even look out the windshield? The damn bridge was at eye level! How do you not notice that!?!

I think that’s why he got 5 years in the slammer. I didn’t read the whole article about that wreck (there’s a link in the story PipBip posted). He may have been pissed.

I am very certain my Honda Element would not fit under that. Wikipedia says it is 1.788m and I have had the roof rack on the car for the past week.

I believe doing it intentionally. I know lots of bus drivers and I've heard some horror stories.

He got lucky, can’t have been that far from having the top of his head crushed.

Made me think of this bus crash near Syracuse, NY:

Bridge is taller, but then so is the bus. IIRC the driver died while awaiting trial. Megabus paid millions in settlements to people killed or injured.

Kind of a sad story about the driver , to hear his wife tell it.

So bad, I’m tempted to drive down the street and give money to the “I’ll watch your car for $10" guy. Every city in the South has these lots :D

Well, it was 100 years ago in the wild west of Australia, standards weren’t what they are today.
