Talked with the resort, if I can get at least 10 rooms confirmed, I can get them for $113 a night, so if you can confirm it, that would be great. It will definitely be September 6-8.

I'm considering making the drive down from PA, but I'm wondering about the timing on the 6th. Is the plan to meet Friday morning or is everyone just getting into town on the 6th?

Full day Saturday, to your own wishes Sunday. That’s what we did last year. I’ll try to make a more in depth  post tonight.

Thanks. It would take just under 11 hours to get from my house to that hotel without stops,  so I’m still firmly in the maybe category

It only adds like 5-6 hours if you take the blue Ridge Parkway the entire way instead of 81. Totally worth it!

I have driven the full length of skyline drive, as well as all of the BRP from the northern end down to Asheville NC. It's beautiful but there is no way I could make it down there in 1 day if I took the BRP.

Not with that attitude lol. I find that I really enjoy doing the BRP in just one long day, not making too many stops along the way. On my cross country drive I think I entered the BRP at Roanoke (had stayed overnight nearby the night prior) and got off in Asheville, taking the freeway the rest of the way to Deals Gap after a stop for dinner. But being in a Miata, twisty back roads are always better than interstates, no matter the time difference.

If I’m going all the way to the Tail of the Dragon, I want to be rested enough to drive it. If it takes me 17 hours of driving to get there, I’m going to be worn out. And at this point I don’t know if I’d be in the Miata or Fiat but both are fun.

The BRP can get pretty aggravating if you get stuck behind slow cars.
