Fun fact: the road doesn’t [fundamentally] turn right, left or stop up ahead.

I’d love to find a straight road like this and just go full throttle until it won’t accelerate anymore.
I feel like roads like this should have unrestricted speeds, but there’s always a downside that I haven’t considered.

try highway 24 between hanksville and I70. NO ONE is going to pull you over and there is at least 17 miles of dead straight road.

Looks excellent, but I think the outright speed would just get boring once you get used to it. I think Top Gear made fun of this on one of their US trips.
That said, I still really want to do it, the only problem is this gap:
Plus I think I’d go mad on the drive home because the regular speed limits would feel far too restrictive.

Nope. Aerodynamics and suspension can cause really strange things to happen at speed, especially older cars. I’ve had several over 100 and a couple up to 135 mph. The scariest was a mid-’70s Camaro. It really started “floating” at about 120. My WRX stays well planted over 100, but I’ve never had it past 120.

US 60 in Western NM between Datil and Magdelena, out on the San Agustin plain (which also happens to be where the VLA is) is pretty good for this. Dead flat and straight for many miles, and (at least back when I lived in Socorro County) isn’t regularly patrolled by anyone. The state police didn’t regularly patrol out there, and the county sheriff’s department didn’t venture that far out unless they had a specific reason to do so. You can drive many miles without seeing another person in any direction.
I may or may not have established the top speed of several of my cars out there when I was younger.

I guess that makes sense. I’ve been inside a Hyundai Accent going 160km/h, and the vibrations going through the car at the time were unnatural, but it’d do 130-140 all day without giving you that uncertainty .

Long car trips cause me so much misery.
