I’m driving to Cincinnati on Saturday, to go to the zoo on Sunday. That means when I arrive in the afternoon on Saturday I can do whatever I want, any suggestions? Automotive or otherwise? I enjoy beer, food and interesting sigh t s. Or stuff that makes you say “huh... that’s weird”.   I’ll have a hotel right downtown.

There is an aquarium in Newport, KY just across the river. They have developed the area around it with fine dining and local pubs/bars. It is easy to park and walk around outside.

Downtown Cincy is also worth exploring a bit. Though there are sections that ought to be avoided. I’m in Dayton, so I don’t remember where specifically though. Cincy also has a couple of good music venues. So maybe you can catch a concert?

Over the Rhine (OTR) neighborhood has become a great hipster hangout with good food and funky bars. When I was growing up, we weren’t allowed to go there, now I couldn’t afford to live there. Some good spots:

- The Eagle - good fried chicken and beers

- Motr - more of a nighttime bar with live music and such

- Rosedale - cool bar with good drinks and an awesome patio

Mt. Adams is a cool neighborhood to check out as well. If you’re downtown you can take a walk on the river to check out the paddlewheel boats and cross into Kentucky over the purple people bridge. Newport is full of great bars and restaurants. If you make it over the river, check out MainStrasse village. There’s a cool bar there called Old Kentucky Bourbon Bar which is upstairs from a great pizza place.

Sorry for the word vomit. I was born and raised in Cincy and my parents still live there. Its a great city and has really thrived in the last 10-15 years.

There are many good breweries in and around Cincinnati. If the weather is nice I recommend the rooftop at Rhinegeist or the patio at Braxton (in Covington). I’ve heard good things about Listermann as well.

I live in Dayton, so hopefully a local will chime in and give some solid recommendations .

I forgot to mention Taft’s. Great food and beer at Taft’s.

I’ve noticed that it has been hitting a lot of those “best/most liveable” lists over the past several years. More than I can say for any city in my state.

I’m in Grand Rapids, MI and it seems to hit those lists as well. Housing prices are rising fast here, but are still very much affordable for what this city offers.

Riverbend Music Center is one. They also have bigger tours coming through the big arena on the river; US Bank Arena.

My wife and I got to see Tom Petty’s last tour there. Great show. Shitty venue though. The nose-bleed seats are cramped, and the stairs have no railings. It was also way too dark up there, so I felt like I was going to fall trying to move around.

And the restrooms are too small and for larger events it just descends into chaos and tears when everyone tried to go pee at once.

Riverbend was so much better as a venue. It is outdoors, but covered except for the main promenade and outlying stages.

I just checked both venues and neither have anything scheduled for this weekend.

Also, if you haven’t tried it before, you should absolutely get some Skyline Chili.

Go to Over The Rhine. Look around there and you’ll find some places. MOTR Pub used to be one of my favorite local bars/ venues. D on’t bother with riverbend .

If you go to Oakley, you have to go to Madtree and Aglamesis

In Mariemont you have 50 West.

If you want Pizza go to any Dewey’s.

Over the Rhine has soooo much food and drinks. If you want cocktails go to Sunderland And Vice or Japp’s. Beer at Rhinegeist. BBQ and Wings at Pontiac, Fried Chicken at The Eagle, Tacos at Bakersfield, Asian street food at Quan Happa, Argentinian at Che, There’s also a magical taco window near there.

And at The Party Source is New Rift Distillery

It may seem odd but the grocery store Jungle Jim’s is worth checking out. They sometimes have really good deals on beer and wine.

The Cincinnati Observatory is definitely worth a look. It houses the two oldest telescopes still in regular use. If they aren’t having a special event the facility tours are worth it.

Ha! thanks for checking, I’ll have to keep it in mind for potential future visits. For one Lil Wayne and Blink 182 are coming to Cincy i think and I’m just really curious how that’s going to go, haha.

I went to the observatory when they had a special even where you could view Jupiter through one of the telescopes and I believe Mercury through the other. There were about a dozen volunteers with very nice personal telescopes giving close up views of various moon craters as well.

It was extremely busy but well worth it. I was there early enough to watch the mechanisms that turn and open the dome in use, and it was very interesting to watch.

alright, I’ll probably have to save that for another trip, I think we’ll probably get through 15 % of the stuff I already have mapped out, haha. So if we have a great time, which I’m sure we will, we’ll probably go back.
