My  aunt found a bargain of a RAV4 (2003 with 76,000 miles for $4k) so she left her 2000 Corolla with me to sell. She took her plate back to Indiana with her, though, so I can’t cruise around in this classy automobile. Oh well.

It has rust, faded paint, cool-ish A/C (definitely not cold), and a VVT noise at startup. Common issue with these older Toyotas. It’s a $50.00 part that I’m going to change myself if I have it long enough.

But...it starts right up, drives smooth, has brand new tires, and it still does over 30 miles-per-gallon.

My aunt wants to get at least a grand for it and she said anything over that is mine to keep. So, I priced it “optimistically” and will negotiate from there.

These old Corollas have a certain charm to me. They’re virtually unkillable. My mom bought one just like this (except it was tan) brand new in late 1999 as a 2000 model. It was her first and only brand new car and she was so proud.

Here’s hoping this old ‘Rolla goes on to serve someone else as well as it has my aunt. She’s had it four years and 40,000 miles and has only had to do oil changes and tires. It’s ugly but it works. She regularly traveled from Indianapolis to here (4 hour drive) with no issues, so I know it still has plenty of life left in it.

I probably will, but for now, I have a mechanic interested in it and he isn’t concerned about it.

Those old Carollas are great basic transportation.

The interiors are comically spartan by todays standards but they’re durable little cars.

I hope so! The problems it has are really minor compared to what most people are peddling in this price range around here. It’d make someone a great work car.

My Mrs. had one when we met. Suuuuuuch a good little car. I felt like I was betraying my most faithful friend when I sold it.

rented one of those years ago in Idaho in that burgundy purple - interior was awfully tight and it really didn’t like the higher altitude inclines...
