The cleanest 900 series in the world. I’ve read that the early 2.9s were problematic, but if this one has made it 250k kms, which should mean it’s a good one, I think. If I were to buy a big rwd Volvo, the power of the I6 would be nice, but apparently they also get worse fuel economy that the old redblock 4 cylinders, even though it’s a lot of weight for the little 2.3s to haul around.

I could fit my entire Subaru in this thing

If it has service records and doesn’t need anything expensive soon, I might do it. Though it occurs to me that one of the least common Volvos might not be the best choice for road tripping, if anything goes wrong in the middle of nowhere. It’s just in such good shape, and would be like driving a couch

Speaking of that trip, I described what the Legacy was doing to my mechanic, and he looked at the fluid and wasn’t concerned. He figures it was shifting too early for that road, and got hot enough to put itself in limp mode, but that should’ve stopped it from doing any damage.

Yeah, this would be something I would shy away from for a 1500 mile road trip to the middle of nowhere.  But for a local cruiser, probably a lot of car for the money.

I’ll probably still go see it. Who knows, if it has service records and seems super solid, I could maybe do it. I’d still feel better, parts availability- wise, in a car with a redblock

For the money, it could be a deal.  2K USD aint what it used to be, and I see countless far worse cars on CL for more.

Maybe keep a cache of frequent fail parts on hand, just to be safe - with all of the Volvo specialists out there, parts have to exist, maybe just not able to be sourced locally same-day.
