You don't realize how convenient one touch auto up/down windows are, until you don't have them

My driver side one stopped working last week and I immediately felt like a pleb. Good thing it automatically fixed itself today. Must be the weather.

Sometimes they lose their programming. Resetting them is usually pretty easy. This procedure worked for my WRX: https://www.yourmechanic.com/article/how-to-reset-automatic-windows-by-mia-bevacqua

It’s annoying when cars have auto down but not auto up windows.

I didn’t know about auto-up for a lot longer than is reasonable. It is unacceptable that we had auto-down for so long before someone added auto-up.

I had to explain to a friend’s kid how to work the windows in my Subaru. You manually crank the bastards down! Keyless entry, HA!. Cruise control? Nope. Automatic transmission? Not anymore. Only like 3 things to break on it.

My windows get stuck in the up position when it gets hot if I forget to crack them a little. I have to then wait for the AC to cool the car off.

I don’t mind pressing and holding the button, if I had to, I don’t though, to raise or lower the windows.

But this is a godsend for venting the car on a hot day or washing the car and getting to the top of the windows without having to put the key in the ignition and turning it to the second position.

North American cars have this feature turned off on Audis and VWs as well as Fords and GM products, but they can be turned on at your dealership.

It’s annoying when cars have auto down but not auto up windows.

Auto-down is easier/cheaper to implement because it doesn’t require pinch sensors to comply with safety rules.

I have it on my car. It’s a welcome feature during summers.

Typically when they lose the setting, it’s just a matter of opening and closing then hold the close button for a few seconds to let the module figure out the close position and it’s all good.  Happened on my Pacifica, last Cadillac and one of my Audis.  All the same procedure.  Sometimes when you change batteries you lose the program too.  Sometime just because the stars aligned just right.

Of all the obscure features me car has from umbrellas in the doors, an ice scraper in the fuel filler door, footwell lighting in the rear, air conditioned glove box and centre console, etc... this is the most used feature.

((some of the pictures are of Piglet, but Sandy has all the same features please an automatic retracting boot space cover))

Both of my cars have cranks. Whenever someone else rides with me, they think it’s funny and marvel at the novelty. Cranks are cool again!

Ye’, if you have VAG-com or access to a VCDS.

I know why VAG de-activated it for the North American market after some people got hurt trapping their fingers in the windows or sunroof. But come on, all that’s needed is common sense. Just don’t do it if kids have their fingers or heads in the apertures.

What’s really ghetto is when the crank gear breaks inside the door, and it only lowers the window haltingly. Then you have to just get it open enough to get your fingers in the gap and wiggle it down the rest of the way.

Back when you were getting Sandy, and you needed a name. I said since she was brown (ish) and you just had a Piglet, you should name this one Pooh.

Because I am 12 and puns make the best potty humor.

Lol. You say that, but when the Mk2 went up against it’s VAG sisters the VW Passat, Audi A6 and Bentley Continental. The Skoda had the most rear legroom and comfort equal to the Bentley. Not bad for a car an six th the cost of a Bentley.

On the Mk2 Superb, there was one umbrella in the rear door on the passeng ers side.

For the Mk3 they have two umbrellas, in the front doors.

So Sandy it is.

Though Sandy hasn’t grown on me like Piglet did.

Screw mandatory back up cameras and automatic braking, one touch windows should be mandated on every vehicle sold  i n the US.

Yeah, us Americans as a group are pretty frickin stupid.  It’s sad really.  I’m more a fan of removing all the safety warnings and let nature sort it out.  At least it’s still left in the module to allow us to flip the switch.  Could be worse.

I keep meaning to take Sandy in and have the rear LEDs come on when the DRLs are on. Because sometimes it’s hard to tell if I’ve got DRLs of headlights on as the DRLs throw a lot of light out, and want piece of mind that should the auto light function not work as it should, at least I’m lit up at the rear.

Apparently many VAG cars in North America don’t have auto lights on the dial, though it has been said, some now do.

RE: Americans, this one by Milton Jones (seriously, you’ve got to look him up) just cracked me up.

My car has auto-down, only on the driver’s window. I’ve tossed arou nd the idea of wiring in another module for the passenger side, but now you’ve got me wondering how easy it would be to wire in an auto-up...
