PNW Meet: British Columbia's Coast-Mountain Circle Route

This past weekend was the latest PNW Oppo meet. We had 12 people across 9 cars from across western Canada & the USA. The drive is approx 700km and is very, very pretty.

We missed those that couldn’t make it, but I hear lots of talk on upcoming events in California and Oregon.

I met with Longtime Lurker, Futureheapowner and Littleblue6 who didn’t come along, on Friday night for dinner in Fort Langley in my D100, but didn’t take photos.

From left to right in the photo below: Potential Heap Owner’s V50 T5 AWD (Portland), GMctavish’s Subaru Legacy (Vancouver), Someoneatacura’s 2019 RDX A-spec (Vancouver) (thanks Acura for providing it for the drive!), Longtime Lurker’s ‘86 325ES (Saskatoon), AMGTech’s E55 AMG (Portland), Wrong Wheel Drive (41%)‘s Rental Charger (Los Angeles) , Simonkhtse’s BMW 635CSi (Vancouver), Lamanate’s MK6 GTI (Vancouver) and CarsofFortLangley’s Fiesta ST (Vancouver).

I quite liked the contrast between the 2019 RDX and 1986 325ES. The newest/oldest cars present one with 150km (less than 100 miles) and one with over 300,000km on it. Tw o different eras of car for sure.

I was impressed by both Longtime Lurker’s skills and the performance of the car. Keeping up with me in the ST and the E55 AMG is no small feat! Must be all that rust lightness. I should also note that Simonktse drove his 635 back to Vancouver after dinner to go and get another BMW a 1 series coupe! I didn’t manage to snap a pic of it though sadly.

Whistler was great, we all had some time to walk around the Village and the place we grabbed dinner was nice and casual with further walking/touristy things and drinks after.

We went on a small hike each day to stretch our legs and see some sights. One to a train wreck from the 1950's and the other to Nairn Falls outside of Whistler.

Due to time constraints, we had to end things a little early, but the whole time was a lot of fun! I will likely make another post with more photos/gopro video from both my car and Longtime Lurker’s.

I ended up with just over 600 miles in total on the car when I returned it at SeaTac. Surprised to see the 25mpg number too, although that was after the relatively relaxed journey home. When parked at Hell’s gate the average was around 22mpg overall.

100% we should do our meet in Saint Pierre and Miquelon. France just off the coast of Canada. You get a great mix of USDM and euro cars.

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever worked the 55 that hard for that long. Chasing a modern hot hatch through the t wisties in a car not known for it’s handling ability was such a blast!

I really enjoyed watching it in my rear view. Can’t wait to watch Longtime Lurker’s gopro footage. I can’t find my microsd card reader so am buying one on the way home!

For the love of God, someone please polish that 325's paint ! Meguiars and a dual action polisher would work wonders! And wax! Carnuba! Comes in cans! Easy to apply! Have I made my point?!

I think instead of renting a 4x4, there should be a group buy and then keep it for use for all of oppo. I would be much more likely to want to go to iceland if i didnt have to pay outrageous rental car prices for a 4x4

yes, the thrills of being shaken down for bribes whenever possible lol. I’d love to overland tour Baja someday though. That seems like a great spot to adventure and just beach bum around for a couple weeks.

You’re making a case for a toy car, as the RDX and Prius are not exactly the best Canyon Carvers (although the RDX is a lot better than it has any right to be).
