Went for what is likely my last backroads drive before the TSX gets totaled out. She’s a pretty car and decent on gravel too.

I wish, sadly in the Socialist State of Illinois it’s illegal to sell a salvage car, it has to be rebuilt before you can.

No, it’s near the Pomme De Terre River in Missouri. I haven’t been there with my TSX, but Starved Rock and Matthiesson are both beautiful parks.

What Mr Donohue said, hail damage. I’m waiting on the claim until next Monday so I could have a car to get me through this semester.

Hmm. What would make it qualify as "rebuilt"? What's wrong with it even?

Man, I missed the hail damage posts . I’m sorry dude, that’s really rough ! Every time it hails I get nervous since my car always lives outside. I guess you’re at least not getting bored with cars?
Just a heads up with the IS250s, I think the early ones have pretty bad carbon build up. The 2006 GS300 had the same issue. I think this was somewhat improved by ‘09 or 2010, but you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for that.
The IS350 and GS350 both avoided that problem with direct and port injection so it’s a good excuse for more powa!

Thank you for the heads up! The GS350 is easier to find in budget than the 300 surprisingly and I’m considering removing the IS250 from the list altogether because it might be slower than what I want

Huh, that’s interesting! In my craiglist window shopping, it seems like the GS300 is cheaper so I wonder if that’s more of a local thing. I have heard the IS250 is definitely on the slow side, especially with AWD so I can’t blame you there. The GS and IS with the 3.5 are rocket ships in comparison haha!

Why not just keep it and pocket the money?
Then you can save money while driving a car that literally paid you for driving it.

Can’t you sell it as “parts”, then whatever the new owner does with it is up to them?

I have only seen 1 GS300 for sale for $5k or less within 200 miles of me, but 4 Gs350s. I’m not a fan of AWD because it’s added complexity, so if I have the choice I’d rather have RWD

I’ll have to check, but I don’t think my insurance (State Farm) would do that. If I can, I will and sell the TSX anyways, I’m wanting something with more power for the highway and potentially less than 220k miles

If it’s been taken care of, 220k is chump change. Hell it can’t even drink legally yet, it’s still a baby.
To my knowledge, any insurance allows you to buy the car back. You end up getting a smaller payment, but you keep your car and you get a check. The car will end up with a branded title, but who cares, keep it and drive it til the wheels fall off.

Oh nice! That definitely works. I am a big fan of AWD after having it, but I will say we’ve had to replace the diff seal and another axle seal is starting to leak so there is for sure added potential problems. RWD serves you okay in Illinois winters?

I would be able to buy it back, but I’m honestly ready for a change and this one is gonna need a lot of work soon, so I’d rather have something different.

I had a RWD GS300 for my second winter of driving, so I think I can manage. I go to school in Southwest Missouri , so we mostly get ice if anything. Plus over Christmas break this year I’ll be on a missions trip to Africa for 3 weeks, so I won’t be dealing with Illinois cold then either

Ah okay! I do remember the GS and I was curious how well it worked. I’d be tempted to replace my car with an IS350, but I think I’ve been too spoiled with AWD haha.

You could always do a GS350 AWD

Good thing you’re getting a check from insurance. The work it needs soon is paid for. ;)
Maybe it’s just time for modifying.
