Super jelly, hope I can make it to the next one. Looks like a good hotel room, right downtown. If I may be so bold as to recommend Vera's burgers for food, best burgers in town! Or, because it's much closer, Steamworks is an amazing spot as well.

As well as the internationally well known one. What I only found out a couple of months ago was that there’s a Vancouver, Washington in the south of the state.
I wonder if the residents of Vancouver, WA about being very little know compared to the one across the border.

They know. They also get oddly pissy when you mention that Vancouver, WA is more or less just a suburb of Portland, OR, even though they take advantage of their proximity to cross the border and buy things without sales tax every goddamn weekend.

There has been confusion in the past. I remember reading about a military wife who followed the signs for Vancouver thinking they would lead her to Vancouver Washington. Yada yada yada, border patrol finds a live grenade in her glovebox.

Why did she have a live grenade in her glovebox?????

This is a good and as of yet unanswered question afaik... though I suspect the military handled a few things internally after the fact.

Jeez, that was a while ago. Seems like only yesterday.

Well I sort of felt stupid asking the question after I wrote it.
Anywhere else in the world it may be a question, but in America, probably not so much. Lol.

Vancouver, WA was the original. Most of Washington/Oregon/Idaho was British (controlled by the Hudson’s Bay Company)
up until the mid-1800s. Vancouver, BC was only incorporated
in 1886.

Cool. So the British Canadians missed having a Vancouver after the border came in and said, ‘I miss having a Vancouver, lets make another one!’.

Vancouver, BC was originally going to be called Granville, I’m not sure what made them switch

Yeah I don’t know either. So probably spite, I’m going with spite.

As a Canadian, it was probably our passive aggressive way of annoying Americans. Just like how we have a Sydney, Nova Scotia, just to trap unsuspecting tourists and annoy the Australians at the same time.
Our next plan: start exporting Quebecoise.

Gotta suck for the poor schmuck that plans the bucket list vacation to Oz and ends up in Cape Breton. Probably cheaper to fly to Australia though, so this scenario is unlikely.
Re: Quebecoise... Is that the version of English that’s 90% f-bombs, 5% other English swear words, and 5% french swear words?

A friend of mine calls Vancouver the armpit of Portland. He lives in Beaverton.

I’ve been to Beaverton and that’s at least 9 0% textbook projection, but he’s still not 100% wrong. Even so, b etween the two I’d choose Vancouver every day and twice on Sundays, to be clear.

I’ve never really looked around Beaverton, always go to Portland. Vancouver looks kinda nice but reminds me of where I came from in a few ways.

The difference is whether you want ONLY strip malls and meth mixed into your soulless subdivisions or whether you ALSO want to occasionally encounter, like, characterful old houses and large yards with horses in them for some reason.

Sorry. I read that as, ‘my girlfriend lives in a van and washes actually’.
Does she ever curl up the side of her when she hears Vancouver, Canada mentioned?

Oh there’s so many good places, Roamers is far better (though not as easy to get to/as many locations ). A quick google will pull up all the nice places to eat, Commercial drive has lots of great cheap eats.

I can neither confirm nor deny the allegation put towards me by the Right Honourable Member, Sir AMGtech and will refer him to my counsel and learned friend, Lord Featherstonehaugh (pronounced fanshaw).
Lord Featherstonehaugh: “no mate. I ain’t touching that”.
Lol.
