Employer was taken over by a larger corporate overlord organization around a year ago. Changes have been numerous and very poorly rolled out. Newest one is switching to Paylocity for our payroll; corporate wide, and for everyone, even salary people.

I am curious if anyone else has had to deal with this app/service before?

Should I run? I have an enormous impact here and I do not want to walk away from it. But I am leery about the prospect of GPS tracking my wh ereabouts for the purposes of a paycheck. I do my job. I do it well. And I do not cheat the system.

My previous company used Paylocity for the past 3 years (and continues to) . Not a single issue and w as unaware of the phone app, why would you even need it?

Yeah we use Paylocity at my employer, most being hourly employees, however us that our salary don’t even have the app. I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Geo-cached time clocks. One can only clock in if they are on company grounds. But I am vehemently against being tracked by my employer out of principle. If they can track you to know if you are at work, what is there to stop them tracking you when you aren’t at work. What I do on my own time is none of their fucking business. (Not that I actually do anything that I need to hide, the principle remains the same)

I am hourly. What does using the app entail? How much location data does it need to collect?

My solution is simple, have zero loyalty to your current employer and never stop looking for a new opportunity.

They will fire your ass in an instant if they have to. You should be able to quit on the same time table.

Plus, the fastest way to increase your salary is by job hopping.

I do not disagree.

However, I am one of a handful of people considered to be the best at what I do in the entire country. I have not been this successful at anything else ever. And I could potentially find another place and continue my success, I would have to increase my commute to over an hour one-way.

To say that I am reluctant to give this up is accurate.

I also am not posting to brag. Only to explain my job situation. I have stumbled into something I truly excel at and have managed to make it into something superb.

No more mechanical time clock and time cards. Since I am hourly, I still need to punch in and out.

Does it actually track you, or is it more of a “let’s check to see if he’s here” sort of thing, something that is fenced to only check on the job site?

Yeah, that’s freaking creepy. Can you use their website for this instead of a natively-installed app?

I think the solution is to only every use the web version and never download the app. https://access.paylocity.com/

Even if using the web version on your phone, you give them location data for the moment that they need it, and then close the tab/browser to stop transmitting your location - maybe use a separate, dedicated browser on your phone for this?

Thank you.

It is always a bit surreal to think about it.

I’m actually not that sure since I don’t use the app and only uses the web browser site for on-boarding. I believe it only collects data to clock in on company grounds but again I don’t believe my employer uses that feature since not every hourly employee works directly out of our main location.

Wish I could help more but I’d speak with someone in HR to get more info. In the least I’d say if you have to use the app, set the location restrictions to only run when the app is in use.

That is the plan should I be required to use the app.

Trade your phone in for one that’s incompatible with the app. Problem solved. #flipphones4lyfe
