A while ago, I got some pink aluminum lug nuts. It wasn’t until recently that I noticed how horribly they have held up these past couple months. Here’s two days ago:

You can sort of make out the color, but... here’s when I first installed them:

I’m going to probably paint the outer face or something and just leave the sides as they are.

Edit: maybe they're not aluminum. I gotta check the box again. If they are, I'll have the tire shop put the stock ones back on when I get my tires replaced next week. At least they were only $20 and they were fun while they lasted.

Al umin um lugnuts are only usable 1 or 2 times before they should be replaced

That sucks. There are a bunch of videos on how to anodize aluminum pink.

I would never use alloy lug nuts...not ever. Even here in dry as dust Australia... galvanic corrosion is a thing.

Aluminum? Yikes. Considering the load applied and the size restrictions, IDK about aluminum lug nuts.

You can get steel anodized in most colors.

Aluminum threads galls and they are un-removable. Take them off and toss them while you can......

Steel would be plated, aluminum is anodized.

Yup, but they later smartened up. Porsche people now use steel lugs, unless they’re going for full authenticity.

All seriously done (air cooled) 911s I’ve seen had longer studs and steel nuts. However, I always wondered how special the OEM ones must have been. Aircraft-grade a l l o y , I imagine?

I believe they were titanium lugs. I don’t know about the 911, but they showed up on 944 turbos (non-turbos seemed to get heavier steel lugs) . I wouldn’t be surprised if they used them on higher spec 911 models, too.

Never heard of titanium ones. In fact part of the problem with the alloy n u t s was that they were easily damaged because they are soft- i s h . I don’t think that would be a problem if they were titanium, correct?
