took the Rover to my first ever cars and coffee. My fiancé took some pics, but I forgot to. It was hosted by Collector Cars Garage here in Chicago. It was a cool event with a good variety of cars (and Teslas). The collectors car warehouse was open, but most things were behind a lot of rope. There were a pair of Icon Broncos that were pretty close and awesome to see in person.
Nobody wanted to check out the Rover but I did hear some people talking about if it would break down while it was there.
It did decide that it didn’t want oil in the rear axle anymore. In terms of Land Rover ownership this is a minor inconvenience, not even close to a true breakdown. I was just happy that there were no fluids under the engine and it started up when we went to leave.
All in all a great way to spend a Sunday morning.

That rear end should be sealed and dry , but sometimes people covert the outer bearings to run wet. IIRC you need a different outer hub seal for that. Rover on.

I want to start Cars and Coffee Grounds events. Just shitboxes and fun Oppo type folks.

I would enjoy that way more than seeing who has the cleanest Corvette or hearing the Tesla people pontificate about the cost of electricity.

I’m trying to determine how much disassembly I need to do to address it. Also, I’ve heard it could be a blocked breather pipe.
Might be worth taking it to the shop if it wont be too much $$.

Might as well get in there and do brakes and bearings if they haven’t ever been done. It isn’t difficult, but a shop is going to bone you for hours. It’s a full float axle, so it isn’t just a couple bolts to remove and replace. You can have the tire off and out off in 10 minutes, and the hub off in another 15 to check it all out and see whats what.

Yup, that’s a sure sign that your axle is about to disintegrate along with the whole rear of the truck. In all honesty it isn’t worth fixing, you should just give me that beautiful truck and save yourself the headaches...

I’m real close to giving it away to someone tbh.
But for real, I just ordered a hub rebuild kit from Rimmer bros with new seals. Do you think that will do it or do I need to replace the stub axle seals also?

Edit: With my advise I’m assuming that the wheel bearings haven’t been done in a while.
In all seriousness though, if you’re going to have the hub off it probably wouldn’t hurt to replace the seal and re-grease/check the condition of the wheel bearings.
Good video on what’s involved.

That’s a great video for what I need to do. The kit I ordered came with new bearings so I’m just gonna do all of it at once. In the video, it doesn’t look like he replaces the stub axle at all, although it looks brand new. I know there’s seals behind the stub axle, I’m wondering if I need to replace those too.

I’d say eyeball it when you have everything off,
if the stub axle isn’t leaking then you should be fine.

Also if you ever get tired of the truck...
