Turns out, we DO need steenking batches:
Put those on while I waited for the fuel to drain from the hole under the epoxy & cardboard patch.
Once I got all 10 gallons out, I sanded and JB welded it. Nothing to lose if the repair takes. If it doesn’t I’ll replace the tank. While I was down there, I replaced the fuel filter. Good thing I did; they’re no supposed to rattle. The element was loose in there, so it was doing nothing. I blame ethanol.
While waiting for the JB to set up, I hit the diff and all the brake & fuel lines with Eastwood rust encapsulator. Hoping that keeps them intact thru the winter salt attack.
In a couple hours I’ll find out of the JB did the trick.

Well there may not be anything wrong with newer cars and ethanol, but older rubber is not made to withstand it, which is why old fuel lines, etc, deteriorate under use. Also, using food for fuel is dumb on a bunch of different levels.

Update: SUCCESS! No leaks of any kind, anywhere. After a short prayer to Legba (may the roads be opened) I went for a test drive. Drives as sweet as can be.
Total mileage to date, 89.1. The cost per mile on this thing is outrageous, $36 per mile.

Yeah, something like 40% of US corn production now goes to ethanol. And there is a lot of US corn production. It’s totally nuts. And that’s before you even consider that corn is a very energy intensive crop to grow.

It’s fine on modern cars that were designed to handle it. In older cars it eats away at rubber parts and corrodes various other things. This problem only gets worse when the car gets fewer miles and the fuel is allowed to sit and get all kinds of gummy and nasty.
